Of the new series I've caught, American Horror Story appears the most promising. It was oddly edited and structured, to its detriment, but it has a sort of Twin Peaks vibe to it and if the writers can make the show more coherent it might be worth keeping up with. The only irritating bit is Jessica Lange, whose character comes off as a Norma Desmond ripoff.

I caught up on the suggestion of a few friends and found myself enjoying it for many of the same trashy/camp elements for which I've always liked True Blood. My hope for the show to grow is showrunner Tim Minear whose had a solid track record with me, particularly his time in charge of Terriers and Angel.

I think it actually might succeed where True Blood is failing because of the fact it's on FX, and they don't have the license to be as graphic when it comes to gore and sexuality. It allows the show to rely more on psycho-drama and creative innuendo than over-the-top gore and light pornography.

Last night's American Horror Story finale was quite good, especially in light of this development (caution, spoilers for pretty much the entire season are in that article).

The season finale went out with a bit of a sigh for me even though the first half of the episode played well. I admire this bold move on the part of Murphy and Falachuk for season 2 seeing as their track record for letting shows tailspin out is impressive in the worst way possible.

I like the idea of the show having a kind of repertory company of supporting actors coming back each season. It's a big gamble, but with this kind of risk, the reward will be much greater if it pays off.

I thought the AHS finale was incredible. I can't believe it's the Glee guys behind this. This show is daring and inventive. Glee is unwatchable (though I though the first season showed a lot of promise).

I'll be interested to see where this goes.

Is this show as sex-obsessed as is appears from its advertising? The guy in the latex bodysuit in the ads for last season put me off watching it (well, not as much as the attachment of Ryan Murphy did, but...), and the bevy of writhing inmates here isn't exactly encouraging me to watch the new season.

I liked Popular and Famke Janssen's run on the 2nd season of Nip/Tuck. Everything else makes me want to write an angry letter to GLAAD. And combining Murphy with Augusten Burroughs, with the result being the movie of Running with Scissors, is like mixing bleach and ammonia and getting chlorine gas.

To be fair I haven't seen Popular, but the first season of Nip/Tuck and an episode of Glee were enough to make me question my decision at an early age to be a person that watches television.

I liked what little I saw of Nip/Tuck but wasn't bowled over enough to follow it all the way through. And Glee?...no. But I really liked the first season of AHS and am intrigued with the concept of making each season it's own story.

American Horror Story had a really interesting pilot, but as the season went on the characters were just grating to watch and I found myself losing interest. It's not really sex-obsessed (I think the only overtly sexual stuff last season involved a gay couple and the latex suit) but the show seems to be compiled shock elements with not much substance behind them.

I'll tune in for the new season since I find the show's premise of having a new story to follow each season an interesting one, but if it is just more of the same I won't be sticking around.

This season's story is shaping up to be more interesting than last year's show. Last night's episode was probably better television than anything from last year's show, IMO.

I didn't see the first season, but these two episodes are some of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. It almost reminds me of The Room in how they failure to express things in a typical way reveals more about Murphy than had he succeeded normally with the show.

I love that there is actually a show on TV that features a murderous Santa played by Al Swearengen, which still manages to be one of the saner things being shown.

Is the first season really subtitled Murder House? That is so perfect for this show.
