Had no idea until I saw this, but Gus Van Sant is actually an executive producer on Starz's new show,
Boss (starring Kelsey Grammer and filmed in Chicago where the show takes place).
Van Sant also directed the first episode.

Maybe they put appreciation of talent over political/ideological beliefs. "Ultra-conservative" should be saved for the Ted Nugent's of the world.

Though it shares a title, "Boss" has no relation to the Mike Royko biography of Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, a Democrat. Creator Farhad Safinia -- who co-wrote the movie "Apocalypto" with Mel Gibson -- doesn't specify which party Kane belongs to.
Van Sant himself has been associated with progressive causes, while Grammer, his co-executive producer, is a Republican.
"The show isn't about political platforms and ideas," Van Sant said, so much as people "grabbing as much power as they can. You can look at the machine without having to take sides."

Jesus Christ, the only person on Boss who hasn't been nude and/or fucking this season on camera is Kelsey Grammer.

Fortunately the vomit avoided my keyboard, so I can answer that in the negative. But seriously, the focus towards sex on this show has taken it off the rails quite a bit. It's still mildly compelling, but if it continues down this path it'll get old quickly.

The end of the 2nd season was so disappointing. I won't spoil it any further, but don't bother with this one. I haven't really seen any of the other shows on Starz but I'm guessing they don't reach the gripping level some other networks programming has. It's good that Kelsey has been recognized for what is an otherwise good performance, inverting the comic outbursts of Frasier Crane into something more dark and frankly evil at times. It's just too bad it's been wasted on a show that doesn't rise up to that otherwise.

Can anyone who watched the first season of Boss on DVD (not Blu-ray) clarify something pedantic for me? Netflix's site claims there are four episodes each on two discs, but in fact Disc 1 has only the first three episodes. Are there five episodes on Disc 2, or is Netflix missing a disc?
