In a society where all social customs are based on the beauty of a woman her challenge is to find self confidence and inner beauty despite having lost her physical beauty.
Iranian painter-turned-filmmaker Mania Akbari explores the divide between body and soul against the wholly contemporary background of electronic communication, where love letters are composed on cell phones and close encounters seem far removed for a once-pretty girl who has been disfigured.
Tautly directed and deftly rhythmical, this enthralling film is a showcase for an outstanding ensemble cast. Through a series of episodes, set in locations ranging from a skin-treatment clinic to a fortune-teller s salon to a prison visiting room, a narrative of love, loss and renewal unfolds, centring on a beautiful woman who has been disfigured in an accident. The third feature film directed by Mania Akbari, the star of Abbas Kiarostami's magnificent Ten.

I don't know if the extras have been set in stone yet, but I imagine that a great extra if the good people at Second Run could get a copy is Akbari's recent short In My Country Men Have Breasts.

BFI Southbank's Mania Akbari season '
From Tehran with Love' begins today with a screening of Kiarostami's 10.
Mania will be in conversation with Geoff Andrew following the screening of '20 Fingers' at 6.20 pm on July 17th.
'One. Two. One' also screens on July 17th at 8.40pm - and on July 25th at 6.40pm.
