Karel Zeman's 1964 fantasy confirmed as a 2014 release in Second Run's latest newsletter - "a new restoration" is promised.

I have the 2-disc Filmexport DVD set of this whimsical, frequently startling, film. It's not in bad shape, though it could always be improved, and I look forward to seeing the new restoration - (unless this Filmexport transfer is actually the one being regarded as 'new'!). With luck, some (all?) of the copious, sadly Czech-only extras, will be subtitled and ported across. The more Zeman available, the better! - I'm currently awaiting delivery of the first 3 DVDs in the recent 'Karel Zeman Film Club' editions, and I'm hoping more will be announced soon. Does anyone think there's any chance of a 'Bláznova kronika'/'A Jester's Tale' Blu-ray release?

Well, Second Run's Ikarie XB-1 was a noticeable advance on the Filmexport edition (I ran both side by side for comparison).

I'm going to pre-order this so hard.

Any Zeman news is good news. I hope SR have the good fortune of including a short or two. Either way they seem to be somehow getting better lately.

I saw this movie about 10 years ago at the MFA in Boston- in a double feature with Ikarie XB-1 (both films are written by Pavel Juráček.) Really good, and I'll echo knives' remark about Zeman news.

Hi, just registered to say how amazing it is to finally see this film being released here in the UK :)
But also, I wanted to ask if Second Run have any future plans to release any other Karel Zimen films?
The Fabulous Baron Prasil is definitely one to be considered as that film has the most intelligent special effects I've ever seen, as well as influencing Terry Gilliam to make his Baron Muchausen.

No plans for more Zeman at the moment - but we would love to, so not to say that won't happen in the future...
