“Nine killed her, nine shall die, nine eternities in doom!”
Horror legend Vincent Price (The Fall of the House of Usher, Theatre of Blood) is Dr. Phibes, former musician, current murderer. Seeking revenge from the medical staff that left his wife for dead, he sets about knocking them off one-by-one in a series of elaborate murders based upon a Ten Plagues of Egypt. Death by bats, by boils, by blood and more await the nurse and surgeons who failed to save the life of the beloved Victoria Regina Phibes!
A camp classic, The Abominable Dr. Phibes sets itself apart from the seventies horror crowd with its knowing humour and art deco sets, and also prefigures the Saw movies with its increasingly fiendish set of murder devices.
Pairing the original film with sequel Dr. Phibes Rises Again, The Complete Dr. Phibes provides viewers with a double diabolical dose of macabre thrills and black comedy.

Yeah, baby! \:D/
P.S. I don't suppose we'll be hearing Price singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on this?

More fun than a barrel full of monkeys, a plague of locusts, and a rain of frogs.

Spotted on the ImdB Trivia page for Dr. Phibes Rises Again:
"Scenes involving Beryl Reid and Terry-Thomas were cut from the original print due to arguments between the producers. Vincent Price had to be recalled to record additional dialogue to cover the gaps this created in the plot. This is the reason why Phibes says so many lines while not wired up to his speaker."
The existing US DVD has Reid and T-T in one scene each. I wonder if there were originally more scenes with these two actors. If so, can they be found in the MGM archive? Will the screenplays (heavily rewritten by Fuest, for the first film; cut for budget for the second film) be discussed in an eventual commentary?
The Terry-Thomas scene is quite grainy and framed very tight up top. Looks like a blow-up in post, from approx. medium long shot to approx. medium close-up.
Price sings Over the Rainbow at the end of the existing US DVD of the second film.
Hopefully the booklet will include info about which jazz song plays over which scene.

No confirmation that "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is on the second film's soundtrack.

It is. (And it plays over the menu loop, too.)

Did Arrow use a newer/improved HD master for the first Phibes film or just perform additional restoration? I noticed that the three white flecks from the Screamcap in comparison #6 (Phibes in the operating room) are missing from the equivalent Arrow shot.

Most Arrow releases today that use an off the shelf master have an "additional picture and audio restoration" credit for James White.

Look again - those aren't the same frame.
(They might have been taken out, I don't know in this instance).

When is the street date for The Complete Dr Phibes? I placed my order with 5 other items. They have shipped the other 5 last Monday, but not this one. Did anybody receive this set in USA yet? Thanks.

I placed my order at arrow website. I am not sure why its not shipped yet. Usually, I receive their shipments (I am in Pittsburgh) within 2 weeks. This one is not even shipped. As the item is sold out, there is no item page anymore. So, I don't even know if it is in stock or they are waiting for inventory. Thanks for the information.

Finally got a reply from Arrow customer service -
"Your order for the complete Dr Phibes -
Unfortunately due to an order error, sufficient copies of this set were not made available for the Arrow warehouse within the last week. Stock is now being re-directed back to our warehouse however it may still take a week or 2 before the set will start shipping .
We are very sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may have caused. Our orders team are making every effort to try and get your copy shipped as possible and as a gesture of goodwill we will be crediting your account with 500 rewards points for the inconvenience.
Kind regards
Arrow Films"
I am still not sure what exactly happened. Is anybody else facing this same problem? I guess I will just stop bitching and enjoy that extra 500 rewards points.

On the bluray forum, a few people had the same problem - they got a similar email and the extra 500 points.

It felt great to receive that 500 reward points, but they still have no ship my copy from their warehouse! This is not normal. I wholeheartedly support the company, but this is height of unprofessionalism. Their discs are not made in Mexico, right?

They told you it may still take a week or two. It's only been a week and a half.
