Congrats to Amazon for making the oboe look like a sexual object on their Mozart in the Jungle promo ad.

It'll be another interesting year of new shows, particularly over at HBO with Vinyl coming in February and Westworld possibly this summer. February will also see American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson over at FX. Netflix and Amazon will continue onwards (and hopefully upwards) with new and established original shows. Meanwhile up-and-comer Hulu is hoping to make a mark this year with dramatic projects as they did last year with some very well-received comedies, with the mini-series 11.22.63 and The Path.

Christ, how does one keep up with this glut of television and streaming programming?

That is something I wonder a lot with the sheer volume of new shows on TV and online. Not that I mind the variety but I do wonder who is watching the latest scripted series on, say, A&E or the History Channel.

Netflix in discussions with Matt Groening for an initial 2 seasons (10 episodes each) of a new animated series:

Lots of people in AVC are hoping it's Life in Hell.

I watched F is for Family. It's good but doesn't have the re-watchability factor for me that BoJack Horseman does. I like how it faithfully extends every cliche of the 70's to such a degree without becoming absurd, and how it touches on the minutiae of family life I haven't seen done before.

I'll second flyonthewall's recommendation of River. Skarsgard is simply fantastic in that role, and it's one helluva twisty detective miniseries. As for Jessica Jones, I think it's very good, but I'm stuck on episode 10 because frankly, Kilgrave fills me with lots more dread than your typical supervillain, to the point where I'm having a hard time continuing to watch.

So is it wrong of me to be more offended that this will be a drama instead of a comedy, than I am by Joseph Fiennes' casting?

I'm just glad that someone finally listened to my Stockard Channing needs to play Liz Taylor idea even if it's thirty years too late.

Louis C.K.'s new show "Baskets" is running on FX now. Nice mix of humor and pathos.

It turns out Melissa McCarthy wasn't even asked to return.

Best case for cord-cutting in a long time.

I wonder what kind of deficiencies the ad executive who came up with has.

My guess is that he drank a lot of the product it's pushing.

Bryan Fuller's next project is apparently CBS's Star Trek.

This is great news, and I read somewhere a while ago that Star Trek is his dream project. I feel like his personal quest for greater diversity on television is a good match for the original series's goal. Hopefully the fact that it's exclusive to CBS's online service (ugh) lets him do greater things than what's typically expected of CBS shows.
