Box sets - three are planned, with eight films apiece.

I'm not sure if the contents of volumes 2 and 3 have been finalised yet, but there'll certainly be a very significant overlap with the contents of the 24-film Polish retrospective that played at BFI Southbank in April and May.

Where, when & how much? Are they up for pre-order?

I'll be in Poland in a couple weeks, and I'll certainly be on the lookout for the first set!

Where: Definitely Poland, possibly elsewhere.
When: Early October for volume 1, some time in 2016 for the other two, presumably with similar gaps between Vols 1, 2 and 3.
How much: 399 złotys seems to be the RRP, which is currently £69.99, €94.99 or US$104.99 (rounded up or down to the nearest .99)

Pity that the first box has three of the five titles already recently released on Blu-ray in Poland. I will pick the first up in Poland in the New Year hopefully.

I find it ironic that it takes Martin Scorsese to huckster Polish films to Poles. Looks like a great collection however!

They don't.

For starters, the UK rights to many of the titles are tied up elsewhere.

I understand those sets are coming from Milestone.

Still, it can't be all of them as at least 4 are tied up with Criterion (indeed, they just released one of them).

Sąsiady (Neighbourhooders) by Krolikiewicz is out on DVD. It was easily in my top10 films of 2014 so I bought 2 copies - I'm back in Uk on Tuesday so if anyone wants a copy just give me a (private) shout.

I just spent two weeks in Warsaw and Krakow, but didn't see the Scorsese box anywhere. Hopefully it'll turn up somewhere online soon.

I don't have a copy yet, and I assume I'd be sent one of the first batch as I'm a contributor.

But what inquiring minds want to know is if this will get released before or after the blu-ray of Celine And Julie Go Boating.

Even though I have some of the Rekonstrukcja blu-rays, I will buy these boxes on day one (provided they all have English subs). The only disappointment is that none of the 3 include Wajda's Popioly, didn't someone post a sample of an HD Restoration of this by Rekonstrukcja? It's #1 on my list of Polish films I'd like to see on blu-ray, yet a cursory Google search has turned up nothing.

Very strong lineup, from the five films I've seen. Hourglass Sanatorium is pretty well known and regarded, as is perhaps Promised Land courtesy of Second Run. Faraon is a visual stunner, and you can't go wrong with Zanussi. (Constans made my '80s list, for what that's worth.)

That being said, I'm personally waiting to see how these get distributed stateside.

Curious of the running time for Faraon. :-k

Anyone know if this to be sold in retail stores? Empik or Saturn? A pity that the packaging looks terribly designed and unwieldy. A lot of space in that box. Perfect for taking up more room than necessary and getting crushed.

According to page 17, note 48, there are four versions:
1/ long version in one part, 190 mins.
2/ long version in two parts, 174 mins. - no info about what this means, perhaps another way of saying there is an intermission before part 2
3/ international/short version, 114 mins.
4/ Cannes version, shown May 24, 1966, 174 mins. - though some sources give a 184 min. length, so it´s uncertain if version 4 is the same as version 1 or 2

That article is in Portuguese. An in-depth look at the film, with what seems to be good info about sources for the various versions (articles in Films and Filming, 1971; Bianco e Nero, Cannes report, 1966)

Highly recommend this new 8 x disc set. Familiar with all of the titles and must say you can't go wrong with any of them. "Salto" is my personal fave, easily rivals the best of 60s Bresson (no joke!) and could be a revelation for some. Wonder how it looks on BR format, restored DVD of that title released in Poland a year (two?) ago is absolutely fantastic when it comes to picture quality.
