He probably won't be making any more movies about dogs. Or at least, let's hope not. [warning: if you think animal cruelty might make you too squeamish, might not want to watch the video embedded here]
Hallström and Gad respond

Incredible comment from that article
Anita all animals can now be done with CGI there is no longer any need to use real animals in any production. The CGI is now so advanced that any animal can be made to look 100% real. If dinosaurs and fantasy creatures can look real then so can dogs and other regular animals. California should pass a state law that prohibits all animals from being used in movies or TV or commercials or any other type of internet video.

Lasse Hallström wrote:I am very disturbed by the video released today from the set of my film A dog's purpose. I did not witness these actions. We were all committed to providing a loving and safe environment for all the animals in the film. I have been promised that a thorough investigation into this situation is underway and that any wrongdoing will be reported and punished.

Wendy & Lucy with a CGI dog would have been truly wild.

Wait, this isn't Hallström's long-awaited sequel to "My Life as a Dog"? #-o

I would go ahead and say not much, unless "hillyosaurus" is any sort of actual animal trainer and not just an articulate online guy who wants to play devil's advocate

Well, that's what he claims to be in the first line, so the alternative isn't "devil's advocate" so much as "fraud".

Is the film technically finished?

Yes, it's being advertised even and has a release for next week.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but
A Dog's Purpose did so well in China that
a sequel is coming, possibly to only be widely released in China

They're already shooting, and shots from the set are starting to leak:

I edited zedz' post because while the joke was solid, I don't think we need to see a pic of the butchered cadavers of dead dogs. The spoiler box is now 100% alive dogs

Glad I was late to this thread.
Regardless, never mind China, the film grossed $64 million in the U.S. alone. It may be a lot lower than the overseas total, but that's still pretty damn good, especially for a $22 million film. Scorsese's $40 million
The Silence was hoping to do that kind of business, and they only got
$7 million and change.

The sequel should have one of the reincarnated lives be a dog in China that's about to be skinned alive for its fur that escapes just in time.
