A strange example of a movie that is worth watching, but only for the last 15 minutes. If this had been a short film, it’d be a horror masterwork. At full length, it’s a middling-to-poor giallo with a crackerjack ending.

I still think Martino’s best giallo is All the Colours of the Dark, which probably also wins the best-ever-horror-title award.

I mean, I quite like the film overall, but the climax, as you say, is so outstanding, so tense upon first viewing, that it elevates a good giallo to the extraordinary level. Probably the finest 'woman-in-peril' sequence ever made.

Sweet, another giallo! I gotta say, I usually for the most part like Arrow's commissioned artwork but this one is beyond terrible. I find it even more disappointing considering it's from the same artist that did the terrific one for What Have You Done To Your Daughters? He should have done something simpler with the killer's mask or something.
I'm a bit torn on what to do with this one. I'm a huge fan of Sergio Martino and I honestly have no problem placing him with gialli greats such as Argento and Fulci. That being said, not considering the dreadful The Suspicious Death of a Minor which is more of hybrid, this is easily Martino's weakest giallo. In a genre that isn't exactly great in its treatment of women this one is so misogynistic, sleazy and exploitative making a bit problematic for me. It's the same reason I could never get into What Have You Done to Solange? It's just so gratuitous with the sexual component, taking the erotic violence inherit to the genre to extremes and IMO leading it into exploitation territory.
My other issue with the film is the fact is the schizophrenic structure in terms of tone with the first half playing as a slasher film and the second the more traditional giallo with its tension and suspense. The film starts with a pretty good opening, but the middle sections while entertaining tend to drag a bit before leading into a terrific second half and finale. IMO, the latter part is what makes the film and places it among the best of the genre.

Really ? This is some of the best cover art I've ever seen. I've seen this film numerous times, love it but the cover gave me the feeling that I wanna blind buy this even having seen it already

I still love the Italian title of this film: "Their Bodies Bear Traces Of Carnal Violence"! It's not quite "Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key", but it is getting close!

The extended climax with Suzy Kendall isolated and menaced through the villa really seems like it is influenced by The Bird With The Crystal Plumage and is trying to expand out the single scene there, which also featured Kendall, into an entire last act of a film.

I like this cover just on its own merits, but if you think this is bad spare a thought for those of us with the UK Shameless one:

I think the most disappointing element of that Shameless cover is they left off their DVD tagline - "Where whores meet saws!"
If that doesn't sell the film, I dunno what will...

No doubt the new scan'll look stunning next to at least Blue Underground's release - I've never really understood what the big deal was about this film, that's much more of a proto-slasher than a giallo (as the term's used in the English-speaking West anyway), complete with a finale weirdly similar to the same year's Black Christmas. It has some great sequences, but on the whole I find the film somewhat clunky & flat. Still, there's something to it, cause this'll be the third time I've bought the damn film.

I second Mr Sausage's love for All the Colours of the Dark, though - that's a wonderful film; though I wonder with Torso being released whether that means Arrow's actually working on Waterworld (of all things!) & Crimson Peak, or maybe at least the first of those was just a red herring.

I wonder given their partnership with Shameless if we'll be able to see future US/CA releases of All the Colours in the Dark and Four Flies on Grey Velvet. Not sure who has the US rights.

More Martino can only be a great thing, provided the colours are intact. Arrow’s Your Vice... & the recent Shameless releases were all irreparably faded. You’d actually hope Arrow could re-do the recent Shameless releases, but would have fingers crossed until you saw the finished product.

Arrow’s Case of the Scorpion’s Tail looked superb. A relatively uneven film, with sublime moments that certainly tightens its grip as it gains late momentum. Martino is best when piling on Gothic atmosphere, and weakest with glamorous high life/travelogue/adventure. Although, he combined all aspects wonderfully in the “hidden treasure” scene, scuba diving to an underwater cave, alone with a killer...

Your Vice wasn’t irreparably faded, it was just released with Ritrovata colours before Arrow started to regrade/do their own grading on some of the Italian titles.

Interestingly, it looks like there won't be a remastered BD along this UHD, like it was the case when Arrow re-did Deep Red entirely but only released the new restoration on BD.

Not that I care that much about this movie, which always attracted me until I finally discovered it and it was pretty much awful and brutally cruel.

This one is very much a climax in search of a movie.

I’m not sure why it’s Sergio Martino’s best known giallo. All the Colours of the Dark and The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh have that sense of delirium and visual extravagance that marks the best giallos.

So the Arrow re-done Deep Red is not available at all on BD, only on UHD, is that correct? I assume the Arrow re-done Deep Red is the "doll cover", and the "shattered glass cover" is an older restoration, as seen here:

While it’s definitely grown on me, I’ve always been perplexed by the love for this one over his others, too. It feels like maybe it’s more pronounced slasher leanings have given it a wider audience than Martino’s other, better, gialli.

Yes, discovering it was disappointing in the end because of the gap between what I was told and the actual result on screen. Even when accounting the "more slasher than giallo" aspect, it just never felt like a very smooth movie to me.

So the latest Blu-rays of Deep Red from Arrow are from a 4k restoration, but not from the same 4k restoration that was later released on UHD?

Deep Red was restored in 4k a first time, and that's what Arrow released on BD several years ago in 2016.
However, when they announced the UHD, they did another one, which, at least, isn't a color-corrected Ritrovata grading but a grading done from scratch. What I'm unsure is if the scan and restoration work also differ or if they only went back to the grading stage. My memory doesnt recall this anymore, though I guess the booklets tech details would answer that, but I do seem to remember it wasn't just the grading.
