Rumored Ginger Lynn Biopic (Christopher Nolan, 20??)

It's a gossip blog, of course, but Crazy Days and Nights has
connected Christopher Nolan and a heap of big acting names to a lengthy January 2018 blind item about an in-development studio film concerning the crazy story of 80s porn star Ginger Lynn's life. No word, of course, whether the project is still happening, but it sounds fascinating and there's still no word on what Nolan's doing next. Would certainly explain why we haven't heard a peep about his next project if this actually exists and is under such tight lock and key. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Now that would be very interesting to see. Nolan hasn't made many "adult" films in his career and if he is indeed making a film about a porn star I'd be very interested in seeing what he'd do with it. Wondering now if he'll find a way to obscure poor Tom Hardy's voice and face again (I jest I jest.).

Sexuality seems so out of Nolan's interests I can't see it, which makes interested if it's real

It seems as though, based on the description of the project in that item, Lynn's sexuality is way beside the impetus for making the film

If it matters any, Lynn had a two year relationship with Charlie Sheen in the 80s, which included drug rehab for the couple.

I checked online and didn't come up with anything about Ginger Lynn being a lawyer or on the run from the mob. From what I understand about that site, it's long sprinkled in some legit Hollywood gossip over the years with a lot of pure fabrication. Pretty sure it's bullshit.

I didn't read it when I commented. It doesnt in way, but I still think Nolan views femininity as a type and I don't think avoiding sexuality as part of past is an option. But I'm interested

It is absolutely possible (probable?) that it's bullshit. And Lynn fits the description of the person in that thread quite well, but I suppose it could always be someone else

In any case, it'll be interesting to see if Nolan can write a female character with enough depth, because so far, it's hard to find one in its filmography (the worst probably being Cotillard's characters in Inception and TDKR).

I wrote about it in the thread for those movies, but I think Anne Hathaway's Catwoman is much more interesting than most give credit (or don't, I guess)-- certainly she's a matched fit for Bale's juvenile Bruce Wayne. But then again, I quite enjoyed that film's superhero take on Delmer Daves' youth narratives

I thought they should have made her (or maybe Cotillard's character) older. Give Wayne an older woman to project some of his mommy issues on, make it more of a psychological thriller. I found Hathaway a little too frigid compared to how Pfieffer (and my memories of the character from the TV show) pulled it off. She was way better in Interstellar though.

I keep forgetting Interstellar-- that's got two strong female characters. I don't think the accusation stands across his work

No, but one thing we can all agree on (as dda alluded to) is that sexuality is not his strong suit. I can't think of a single "sexy" moment in his entire oeuvre, so it'll be interesting what the approach will be here. Considering the names listed in the item, it will probably be avoided/subverted to an unexpected degree anyway

Two characters across three strong performances no less.
I'd say that if Cotillard's character is written rather thin in
Inception then it was perhaps by design since she only exists in Dom's head. It's a supporting role, but Ellen Page's character was a very strong one I'd say.

The Rachel Dawes character in the first Batman is interesting, too, not only for refusing to be the hero’s love interest, but actually being a stronger influence on Batman’s ethos than either his father or Ra’s Al Ghul. He spends the whole first movie trying to live up to her example. If the character doesn’t register overmuch it’s because Katie Holmes was only adequate in the role. Maggie Gyllenhaal has a stronger presence, but the character is sidelined somewhat in the second one.
The Carrie-Anne Moss character is very interesting in Memento. On the surface of the narrative she’s a basic femme fatale, going from helping to manipulating the hero. But the narrative is running backwards. Allowed to run normally, her temporal progression reveals interesting layers of emotion to her character.

Hilary Swank and (particularly) Maura Tierney come out better than the counterparts to their characters in the original Insomnia.
Perhaps the one (by process of elimination at this point) with the weakest female characters is The Prestige. Scarlett Johansson comes out okay I think, but not particularly memorable.

Though even there Rebecca Hall's character has some interesting moments and purpose for the narrative.

This story will look spectacular in 70mm Imax.
