I actually mixed this up with the Showtime limited series that's shooting right now on Roger Ailes (with Russell Crowe as Ailes). I'm not sure if I was unaware of Roach's movie or merely presumed the two were the same.

Uh, are we sure Charlize Theron hasn't actually been Megyn Kelly this whole time?

Gotta say, aside from the general body type and the wardrobe, I don't see the resemblance at all

I say the resemblance is freaky. I don't recognize Theron at all!

Theron is great, I'm sure she'll be fantastic in this thing I'll never see, the resemblance just doesn't grab me in these examples

Especially the pic on the right.

Allison Janney was on Marc Maron yesterday, and did a bit of an impression of her character's accent.

Is this an HBO thing or is it getting a theatrical release

It is with Lionsgate so I'd imagine theatrical.

Showtime is doing something of their own with Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts and Seth MacFarlane among others. I think that will be a mini-series.

Ah, that must have been what I was thinking of (outside of the fact that Roach has made plenty of milquetoast HBO movies about recent political events). I thought I had heard on a podcast or something that Crowe had gained a bunch of weight to play Ailes. Well, this is a real glut of Fox News behind the scenes reenactments that no one asked for!

John Lithgow is playing Ailes in this.

Teaser trailer, now called Bombshell (which is a fabulous title)

And considering that I thought Theron was portraying Gretchen Carlson in the trailer, I still don't really see the resemblance. Looks unexpectedly great though!

I'm digging the Brian de Palma vibe of that trailer.

It's amazing to me that Kelly couldn't stop being racist for long enough to hang onto her job at NBC to benefit from what's sure to be a publicity boost upon the release of this film.

Zero percent chance this is as good as that trailer.

Margot Robbie gets in the elevator on Floor B and pushes the button for Floor 2. Charlize Theron and some other randos get in.
Nicole Kidman gets in on Floor L, sees the button for Floor 2 is already pushed.
But then in the next shot, before the doors close, the sign has switched from L to 2; they're already on Floor 2 before the elevator has moved again.

I mean, what, are we-to believe this is some sort of magic elevator or something?

I can't be the only one who thinks the trailer is corny, right? That last minute zoom onto Kidman as the elevator closes is just beyond sloppy and odd. I for some reason saw All the Way, Trumbo, and The Campaign, all of Jay Roach's political films, and they're beyond schlock. On top of the pathetic neo-liberal values of these films, they're perfect examples of incompetent, clueless filmmaking. At least Austin Powers has some laughs in it, but his attempts at satire or non-comedic filmmaking is a mess.

It's bad because it's trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Some of the faces have changed but Fox News is still doing fine.

This is all correct, of course, but if the tone of this film isn't sanctimonious, it could be a fun watch. Of course, I'm destined to be let down, but I enjoyed the tone of that teaser.
