I'd like to raise the point that they may not actually have the rights to several musicians music and hoo boy wouldn't that be terrible? This was the period when he saw Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper live and was inspired by them. I mean good lord wouldn't this movie be terrible if it was just him meeting generic schlubs and going "Wow that's great!"

Maron as Bowie's frustrated publicist is a much better idea for a movie than the connect-the-dots bullshit this sounds like. Junk everything else, get Cameron Crowe on-board, and then we'll talk.

They certainly don't have the rights to Bowie's, as per Duncan Jones' Twitter. (Where he pitched his own suggestion of a Neil Gaiman-scripted animated film directed by Peter Ramsey).

We don't know anything about this yet, maybe it won't have any of Bowie's music in it at all by design

So, removing the main reason anyone even went to see Bohemian Rhapsody? How hard could it possibly be to be a Hollywood exec?

Didn’t that Hendrix movie with Andre3000 a few years ago fail to have any Hendrix music? Look how well that worked out!

I honestly can see no one else being half as close to being Bowie like. But it's very dependent on what type of film you aim to make.

Also, keep Cameron Crowe the fuck away from this. The guy has made only shit since the turn of the century (Vanilla Sky was just last decent film)

Do you ever have anything positive to say, dda? It seems like you're always swooping into threads to complain about films and filmmakers, maybe consider how you're coming off

EDIT: I say this in full agreement about Crowe, but the guy has still done great work

Well I find people here have way more eloquent things to say about the many things I love, like Burning this year or Talking Heads etc. (A dually I might write my thought about True Stories which I found brilliant).
And I like two and a half Crowe films, Almost Famous being his only truly great film. But Vanilla Sky is solid, and so is Say Anything and Fast Times. Everything else I've seen has been awful (time hasn't been kind to Singles).

Back to topic, Bowie is easily one of my all time favorite artists (and I'm unashamed to say I discovered him through the still amazing Let's Dance) so I'm really put off by the thought of just another cookie cutter film. I like Queen very much but not enough to know all the inaccuracies and to be annoyed by the film. I will be vis-a-vis Bowie.

(Or maybe you got annoyed j contradicted you Mfunk? )

Probably life is just too short though, right? This movie, even if it’s as horrible as you’re imagining, presumably won’t affect how much you love Bowie. So why be a masochist about it and get mad over every little detail?

Just ignore it. It seems not worth the irritation. Pursue instead the things that bring you joy in life.

Ha I guess I was over emoting. I probably won't but I do think it's possible to make something special out of Bowie, it'll probably not be audience friendly though.
