but COMMENTARY by Lars Von Trier!

or did the Canadian version have that as well? I was so excited just to get it I didn't pay attention to the features.

commentary, I totally missed that, whoops. I dunno if the Canadian release featured a commentary or not, I never bought it. I was going to buy it this month, but I'm glad I waited now.

The canadian version doesn't have a commentary, just a short biography and a transcript of an interview with Von Tirer.

well that settles it. This US release of The Kingdom finally proves that America is way better than Canada!

The Lars von Trier commentary that I've heard on Dogville and Epidemic consists pretty much of Lars cracking bad jokes. I wouldn't expect this to be any different.

The von Trier, et al. commentaries on the excellent Danish release of Riget/The Kingdom I & II are on selected scenes only. I would expect these to be ported over to the US release.

I found the series to be very enjoyable. In fact, I liked it much more than any of the four von Trier films I've seen (Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, The Element of Crime).

Does anyone else's disc 2 freeze and jump to the next chapter in episode 3 when Helmer goes into the archives? I've tried it on four different players with the same result.

There is a manufacturing error that seems to affect all copies of disc two. I experienced the same problem on two different sets and I have seen it mentioned on numerous forums. Both copies I tried froze on Chapter Six of Episode 3 (in the Archives) and then they would briefly take me to a scene that is from Episode1 on the other disc (!) before they locked up completely.

Does anyone have the contact information for Koch Lorber?
I would not recommend buying this set until they correct the error.

Thanks so much for posting the e-mails. The fuckers won't write back to me when I ask about it. So I used your info to send a letter straight to that Jason guy.

They told me the corrected discs will be sent early January and also that "there have been discussions about releasing The Kingdom Series 2 but it's still not confirmed". Sounds like there on the verge so everyone buy the corrected Kingdom.

I received my replacement copy. I have not checked it to make sure that it has been corrected. I will post an update tonight after I play it. The packaging appears the same. There is no indication that it is a second printing.

I tried out the second disc. The problem has not been fixed. The disc had the exact same error as before. Has anyone else received a supposed corrected replacement in the mail?

Same here. What the hell did they think the problem was, anyway? And now they're pissing away money sending out additional defective copies to people, which would almost be funny if it weren't such a disappointment.

UPDATE:
Thanks for your email. It was fixed and somehow our shipping department sent the wrong copies to some people. I have sent corrected ones in the mail to everyone again today.

Once Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Best,

Jason
So there you have it. What a mess. You have to admire their dedication, however tempered by error it may be.

I received the second package yesterday. Disc two arrived in a plain jewel case with a sticker proclaiming it was, in fact, the "Corrected Copy".

I just emailed Jason to get a replacement disc and asked him about Kingdom II. He replied "I believe we will be releasing II by the end of the year."

I received my replacement of the replacement yesterday. It worked fine this time. I hope they put a sticker on the corrected copies that are carried in stores.

I just got word that Lars von Trier's second Kingdom miniseries will not be released by Koch Lorber until 2008 at the earliest. This is rather shitty news and I apologize if this belongs in another thread.

Personally I can live without it. I didn't care that much for Riget Part 1. I liked it, just did't really get that into it. I did love the kids with Down's Syndrome who knew everything that was going on all the time.

If you can play R2 PAL, why not get the Danish edition from CD Wow? I'm very happy with mine! Fully English-friendly (specs here).
