Looks like I have to double dip after getting Arbelos’ disc

I really hope Jancovics’ final feature, The Tragedy of Man, will get an HD release. I have the Hungarian DVD

I stand corrected--this is pretty much replicating the Arbelos package.

And to post something constructive, this is a good concept album inspired by the film

I'm glad I don't have to double dip on it, I would have immediately plopped down more money for a commentary or another short film.

this is not on the Arbelos disc, correct?

as said elsewhere I like LEs and this has good art as expected. will get this, though I do wish they'd gotten another commentary or really anything else scholarly about the film to differentiate it from the Arbelos. interesting since Eureka has done such an amazing bang for your buck job this year with extras...which this is obviously still loaded with

I have a Hungarian Blu-Ray that was released back in 2013, but it looks like its possibly OOP now or certainly very difficult to import. It would have been nice if Eureka got it as well as it's film that I think would really benefit from some extras and those on the Hungarian Blu aren't English-friendly.

Correct, but I think it's this video that is on the National Film Archive's YouTube channel. It's certainly not enough to make me double dip over the Arbelos but hopefully it does well enough to make Eureka release The Tragedy of Man or more animation full stop for that matter.

definitely, just a nice treat for being late to the party on picking this up. I really do hope they release Tragedy of Man, and it looks like Hungary restored Song of the Miraculous Hind as well - would make a great twofer edition for MOC. Hungary has been one of the best countries in regards to film restoration and preservation, and I just hope to see the anglo labels take full advantage of this - I've enjoyed every single movie from Hungary I've seen so far!

Did David Mackenzie encode the Arbelos release? Will he encode this one?

Arbelos booklet does credit Fidelity in Motion.

It's possible but hard to say. Eureka seemingly only use FiM nowadays for mostly their martial arts releases

I watched this last night and enjoyed it very much, I am not very familiar with this era of European animation (not for lack of interest, it just evaded me so far) but something about this film seemed so familiar to me, I was racking my brain trying to remember if I had somehow seen it and forgotten. Eventually it came to me that while I hadn’t seen it, I HAD seen, as a child, the James Earl Jones-hosted PBS show Long Ago and Far Away, which featured a different animated story each week. At the time I had no concept of this, but these animated stories weren’t made for the show, instead they were imported from elsewhere (one episode I recall vividly was The Talking Parcel starring Freddie Jones) and at least two of the episodes were “Hungarian Folk Tales,” little shorts, many of which were directed by Marcell Jankovics!
I’ve found the original episode of the show on YouTube and an entire Hungarian Folk Tales YouTube Channel.. Doubtless many here are already familiar with these, but I think they’re wonderful and, in these days when PBS is being targeted, thought it was a great reminder of its potential, since it introduced me to Marcell Jankovics at 6 years old, even if I didn’t realize it for decades!
I’d also love any more information anyone might have about all this, I know there are some experts around here.

I'm only mildly familiar with those Hungarian Folk Tales, but I'd highly recommend the set of Gems of Hungarian Animation from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. It features several Jankovics shorts among other worthwhile films. And Deaf Crocodile has put out a handful of animated features that are all worth your time:

Tragedy of Man (another Jankovics)
Bubble Bath
Heroic Times
Cat City

Thanks for the recommendations! I've got Bubble Bath already, so I'll make that my next watch. I also need to watch Johnny Corncob.
