ELIGIBLE TITLES FOR 1994

Please post in this thread if you think anything needs to change about the list of eligible titles.

I've seen it listed as 1994 and 1995, but I'll vote for Greenaway's "Stairs 1, Geneva" wherever you place it.

I'd like to single out The Color of Fear as a spotlight recommendation. It's an underseen fly-on-the-wall doc examining a diverse focus group centered around race relations. Victor Lee Lewis is a force of nature, and you'll want to follow him on social media, etc. after seeing his 'performance' here. The film gets at the messiness and clarity around different forms of racism and their effects better than any other I've seen. knives and I discussed it a bit here

How’s Rivette’s Joan the Maid series being worked for the list? I only see one entry, but I believe it’s always been released as two films?

I'm counting them as a single film but if anyone wants to be able to vote for just one or the other part (competing against the combined entry) let me know and I can add that option as well

Can you add Maysles' documentary on Christo's Umbrellas project? I found this one to be the most cinematically compelling of his documentaries on Christo's real-world installation art projects.

I really like this one too, though I feel like you and I may be the only ones who do! I think it's a lot better than some of the other Body Snatcher-type films that get bolstered in its place (and casting Sutherland in the film is so galling that I'm still kind of amazed they did it [and that he did it!])

I love it too, it's a lot of fun

Plus you get all the Richard Belzer action movie heroics other movies have denied you

I'm unlikely to vote for it, but Robert Altman's Pret-a-Porter has its admirers and it seems like he should be on the big list.
Also, The Madness of King George, if only for one of Helen Mirren's great performances.

I just saw Madness and actually thought Mirren was one of the least compelling aspects of the film. I did think it was good overall though. The way it plays with royal sanity and insanity as unpleasant for different reasons was just sour enough to make it more than another crown picture. Also the Holm sequence is genuinely unnerving.

Could you add Penelope by Barbara Meter to the list? It’s a great little horror portrait of someone who had.

Also watched Being Human which must have been a real crusher for Forsyth fans after a half decade of no films. As the film progresses you really do get a sense that all the flavor was crushed out and that with just a few more minutes, especially in segments two and five, you could have had a real good Kieslowski type film.

Disagree on Mirren, very much agree on Ian Holm. I do like the way the picture sets up as cinematic royal gossip and ends up as a kind of terrifying comedy.
