Interesting, wonder if Criterion is going to include One Eyed Jacks in the big Kubrick box that is (per rumors) possibly maybe coming in a few years or whatever the case may be. Guessing not, but its inclusion in this retrospective is conspucious

I was also wondering if the box set would include A.I: Artificial Intelligence, especially since it’s from WB.

One-Eyed Jacks is already in the collection. A.I. Artificial Intelligence was last issued as a Paramount blu-ray 15 years ago, though IMDb lists the production company as Warner/Stanley Kubrick Productions. Maybe Criterion won't put them in the box, but give them both UHD upgrades at the time of the box's release.

And that would be a way to get Spielberg into the Collection. On the back of Kubrick

With Close Encounters Of The Third Kind getting promoted on the channel this month, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to come. I believe A.I., The Color Purple, Minority Report & The Post have been on the channel before, but not given such a high profile. Think there've been a few more but can't be certain off-hand which.

Ha, I'd love that. Though the rumor has been pervasive that they have Empire of the Sun, which I would very much approve of.

I don't see why A.I. should be in a Kubrick set. Despite it being a project he originated, Kubrick's only credit on it is a dedication. Why inflate the cost of the set to include things like this or One-Eyed Jacks where he had almost nothing to do with the finished product? It'd probably already be around $500 list price like the Wes Anderson set.

My Brother in Christ you have answered your own question in your question unfortunately.

A.I. opens with the credit “An Amblin’/Stanley Kubrick Production” as a way of honoring the huge influence Kubrick had on the project, from developing the story and approving the art direction to, apparently, insisting Ministry be the band playing at the Flesh Fair! The film is very much an attempt to bring Kubrick’s vision to the screen which makes it a different situation than One-Eyed Jacks. Nonetheless, I don’t think A.I. would qualify for inclusion in a box set dedicated to Kubrick the director and would prefer they stick with the 13 features (and shorts) he was on-set directing.

I sincerely doubt that either Spielberg or the Kubrick estate would sign off on A.I. being included in the set. I'm curious if the estate (who will presumably have some input) will even sign off on Fear and Desire, though Kino have already put that one out.

Re: Spielberg, if Criterion do release Empire of the Sun or AI, I wonder if he'll allow them to include Amblin' or any of his early student films. Though the physical release of The Fablemans (or Duel) would probably have been the most appropriate place for them.

It looks like Criterion has confirmed a Kubrick boxset. They posted a clip reel of all his films, on Facebook, and said, "Coming soon."

I'm assuming by complete, this means all the short docs too (I didn't recognize some of the images, so I'm guessing those are from those films).

What's the source of the footage of the meat being sliced and Kubrick getting a haircut?

Spartacus is shown in the reel Criterion posted, so it would seem assured that one is going to be included. It'll be exciting to see that Technirama in 4K.

The first set of clips after the initial clapperboard go in chronological order, so I think that indicates these are the films that will be included:

I didn't see it mentioned.. but is this likely to be all 4K versions?

Do you mean 4K only (no Blu-ray) or 4K of all included? I can't see it not having 4K versions of all the films (except maybe the shorts) as all of them except Lolita already have extant 4K releases. And I can't see Criterion not doing Blu-ray versions either. I guess that just leaves the question of whether the set will be dual-format or 2 different single-format releases.

Looks like Sister Hyde’s (likely) doing the artwork for the collection.

Interestingly, both The Shining and Full Metal Jacket are in 1.85:1 which I assume is how they were originally shown in theaters. Warner's previous releases of those were in 1.78:1.
