I absolutely must get the Norwegian DVD of the amazing Ni liv (Nine Lives). Even though it is considered one of the greatest Norwegian films ever made, I doubt we'll ever see it on DVD outside of Norway. This is the DVD.

But all the Norwegian DVD sites I have found don't seem to do international orders or the sites are hard to navigate and understand, even using this. Does anyone know of a workable Norwegian site?

Hi, I own the DVD and can wouch for the film and the DVD. I don’t know any etailers that are English-friendly and actually ship abroad, but I’ll look into it and post if I find any. Nordisk Film have released, and are continuing to release several Norwegian films on DVD in Norway. All these DVDs contain English subs. Most of these DVDs are barebone editions and not all are anamorphic when they should be but the quality is certainly acceptable. This is a list of some of the titles. I have an extra copy of Ni Liv if you’re interested in buying it.

Other Norwegian editions that I can recommend are Hamsun, with Max Von Sydow, Kjærlighetens Kjøtere (Zero Kelvin) by Hans Petter Moland.
Veiviseren (the Pathfinder) by Nils Gaup, one of Norways very few Oscar nominations was released last week in a lavish 2-disc Edition, but this sadly does not contain English subs.
Beautiful Country with Tim Roth and Nick Nolte has also been released on DVD in Norway.

If you're looking for a very solid contemporary film, I'd also recommend Hawaii, Oslo, now making the festival rounds. It's a good disc, too.

On another Norwegian note:

I'm a bit disappointed that Kåre Bergstrøm's 1958 horror film, De Dødes Tjern (Lake of the Dead) still hasn't been released in Norway. Again, this is considered one of Norway's greatest film. From what I have read it is a genuinely terrifying film with a style all of its own. It was shot in black and white 2.35:1 scope. I'd love to see a Criterion release of this. Thanks again, guys!

I`d really love to get Folk Flest Bor i Kina, in case the DVD has English subs.

Although I don’t own the DVD I can confirm from this review that the Norwegian release of Folk flest bor i Kina does indeed have English subs.

Nordisk has announced plans to release De dødes tjern over a year ago. A likely reason for the delay could be that the original elements needed restoration before they could release it. The Norwegian film institute is involved in this.

I had a chance to se a good cinemascope print of the film last year when the cinemateque I work at screened De dødes tjern, and several other Norwegian classics. I’m not sure that I would categorize it as “genuinely terrifying” but it does have a style of its own and André Bjerke, the author of the book that the film is based on, plays the lead role as Gabriel Mørk - the writer
