Apparently "The Thin Man" is simply a reissue of the original release (which I haven't seen, but have heard is mediocre) with a keep case in place of the snapper. The set sounds stellar other than that, but it's a pity that Warner wouldn't take the time to spruce up the picture and add some supplements to one of the finest films Hollywood has ever produced.

Is this set being packaged in thinpacks now or are there still some in keepcases? And how can I tell the difference if buying online?

I haven't heard anything about thinpaks. I received it a week or two ago from DVD Empire with keepcases.

Hmm, maybe I daydreamed this but I think I remembered reading something about it online. Or maybe it was the fact that apart from Thin Man you can't buy the other titles in this collection separately, which would fit in Warner's policy of slim case packaging.
Oh, well -- I think I will email some etailers and find out more about it.

Exactly! Anyway, I've emailed Amazon. Let's see what they have to say about this.
Oh, and I did not
actually dream -- I
daydreamed about it!

I think the only instance I
did dream about DVDs was one involving Criterion releasing more Fassbinder, apart from
Berlin Alexanderplatz, that is. Now, that
is a dream, isn't it?

Already got a reply email from them:
Greetings from Amazon.com.
As per your inquiry, I've researched the item "Thin Man Collection
DVD " on our website and found that it is a packaged of seven DVD's
and I confirm that this package comes in a regular keep cases.
Oh, well. Still, it
would be nice, wouldn't it? A 7 disc set takes
far too much space on our shelves these days, doesn't it?

Been watching this set for the last couple of months and enjoyed all the titles immensely but I agree they did the right thing when they stopped making them at #6 as it sort of felt too old too quick.
Although the movies fell on a sort of safe formulaic structure, the wit and the gags kept them alive and Powell and Loy did have an on-screen chemistry that was hard to deny. And those endings were always exciting to watch!
This Warner set is handsomely produced and I was astonished to find not one but two Tex Avery's on them but the greatest treasure hidden amongst the extras is the Jules Dassin short Tell-tale Heart, adapted from the Edgar Allan Poe story. Superb little masterpiece!
