The complete Hendrix set from Woodstock will be out on Sept 13 with a wealth of extras. This proves those wrong who believed that the excised footage was trashed.

DATE: July 14, 2005

SEATTLE, WA (July 14, 2005) - Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. in association with Universal Music Enterprises is pleased to announce the release of Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock [The Deluxe Edition] on September 13, 2005.

This special two-disc DVD presentation of Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock stands as the definitive record of one of Jimi's most celebrated performances. This all-new deluxe set features all of the existing film footage from Jimi's unforgettable August 1969 Woodstock concert newly re-edited and presented uninterrupted and in its original performance sequence. Live At Woodstock includes never-before-seen versions of "Foxey Lady," "Message To Love," "Hey Joe," "Spanish Castle Magic," and "Lover Man," and an all-new 5.1 and 2.0 stereo soundtrack mixed by Eddie Kramer, Jimi's original studio engineer.

Where 1994's original VHS [and subsequent DVD] release of Hendrix's Woodstock performance ran for only 57 minutes, Experience Hendrix has teamed with Warner Bros. to restore all of the existing film footage from Hendrix's legendary Woodstock performance. This new edition was entirely re-edited by Jere Huggins, one of the original editors of the 1970 Academy Award winning Woodstock documentary. Huggins worked extensively with Experience Hendrix's Janie Hendrix and John McDermott, as well as noted Warner Bros. film restoration specialist Bill Rush to incorporate a variety of previously unseen camera angles and coverage. Rush has been involved in the careful, critically acclaimed restoration of many classic films, including Public Enemy, Casablanca, and Out Of The Past. The result is a frame by frame digital restoration that presents Hendrix in vibrant color and detail.

In addition to the full-length feature Live At Woodstock, this deluxe two DVD collection features a multitude of special bonus features including:

THE ROAD TO WOODSTOCK
A new documentary featuring Hendrix performance footage and new interviews with Woodstock promoter Michael Lang, and Hendrix band members Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Larry Lee, and Juma Sultan among others.

JIMI HENDRIX: LIVE AT WOODSTOCK: A SECOND LOOK
In addition to the newly re-edited color footage featured on DVD one, A Second Look offers a totally unique perspective of Jimi's Woodstock performance that has never before been shared. A Second Look combines never before seen black and white video footage of Jimi's legendary Woodstock performance intercut with alternate camera angles filmed in color.

A Second Look features uninterrupted footage of every performance featured on DVD One in its original performance sequence. In addition, A Second Look presents never before seen video footage of “Hear My Train A Comin'â€

Whatever questions there are about Experience's bad handling of his extended family, there is no doubt that they have done a great deal to clean up the professional mess left by his premature death, rereleasing his later music in the formats and under the titles that he wanted and generally supplying evidence of his incomparable genius.

This is fabulous news 8-)

If Larry Lee's songs were filmed they should have at least been on the second disc making the set completely complete. This is a long standing discussion point with Hendrix freeks. [For those who don't know, the songs are 'Mastermind' and 'Gypsy Woman.']

I've got it. The complete set is included minus three songs [one not filmed and two with the singer Larry Lee fronting]. Apart from minor edits within certain songs it's all that is likely to be released. The Black and white footage is crude but interesting - a home video basically. (You get the missing song from disc 1 here.) If the price is reduced it is worth it since disc 1 is all that is essential. The booklet notes are very informative (for a change) and discuss the filming of Hendrix's set in particular.

What WB should do with the WOODSTOCK film is to put out a special edition with all the unused footage on an extra disc or two [a la the COMPLETE MONTEREY box].
