How did this slip under the radar? No reviews online. Does anyone have this disc?

Thanks for the info. I have the R2 Japan disc of The Dead and am disappointed with it. So... just ordered the Australian disc and I'll let you know -- if someone else doesn't first -- what's what when I get it.

I was also unaware of this DVD. Here is the link from MRA's website. Most DVD retailers stock MRA DVDs for cheap prices, I will look out for it.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but are this edition worth getting? :)

Sorry for the two years' delay in reporting. I received the r4au disc back in 2005 but it didn't play all the way through. So ezydvd sent me another, which also didn't play through. I subsequently got the anamorphic r2uk network/granada disc which looks sharp to me (though perhaps a bit too bright in the highlights, like the contrast was pushed a bit). I don't remember well the quality of the r4au, but I don't believe it was superior to the r2uk.

It seems likely, but does anyone know if Huston deliberately choose a muted colour scheme for this picture? Lots of browns, blacks and creams, casting a sepia tone over the whole production. The transfer is taken from a print, and could be seen as a little faded, but does the Network R2 disc correctly reflect the original scheme?

I'd tentatively say: yes. I saw the film in the cinema when it was first released, and if I remember correctly, it had the same muted palette, it just looked much sharper than the Network disc obviously. But don't nail me on this, it's more than 20 years since then.

Thanks for that; makes sense.

Does anyone here know the differences between the 79 minutes version of this film and the 83 minutes version?

PAL speed-up would indeed appear to be the case judging by the BBFC page for the film.
