I saw this movie probably 15 years ago on either Bravo or IFC and remember liking it immensely, but I'd forgotten about it until a discussion with my brother earlier today. Anybody know if this is going to be coming out in R1 any time soon? Am I the only one who's seen this?

yeah, I saw that. I'm not holding my breath.
Until I develop a time machine and go back to 1969 to get the DVD, however, I see that it's available from SuperHappyFun.

It's out on DVD in NZ (and quite possibly Australia). See
here for example.
The film is worth tracking down, though I think it goes downhill after the hangers-on arrive. The first half hour - Bruno unleashed - is great.

I emailed the guy at SuperHappyFun and he claims that their copy is widescreen... for those who were wondering.

The DVD offered by that NZ shop looks like it might be the full frame version that you can get for next to nothing at amazon.co.uk.
Anyway it looks like Geoff Murphy's Goodbye Pork Pie is coming out in a 2-disc special edition on December 7.

I've checked elsewhere and yep, it's 1.33. So avoid.

Cheers. Now added to my DVD Pacific wish list ($16.03 + postage; release date 13 June 06).
I bought the UK R2 full frame version in August 03 - a significant improvement on my old VHS copy.

Good enough for me. I'm hoping to get this in the DDD 20% Off sale, but I have to wait until the official release date of June 13.

I wish I knew what was up with the book that this was based on. It goes for $500 easy.

plot summary on Wikipedia.

FYI,
the very scarce book is finally about to get a new edition, for the first time since the '80s.

Ha, 7 years after the movie's DVD release, suddenly the book is available and the movie's out of print and selling for
$5000.
(Yes I know there are cheaper copies...)
