I love Romy, but can't say I'm overly excited about this. Thoughts?

Great news.

I got this last year at amazon.de, and was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of audio and subtitle options, as well as the quality of the transfers.

It's an odd selection of movies, none of them among her best films, but most of them are hard to find elsewhere, so the set is worth getting if you're a fan.

EDIT: The set comes with a well-illustrated 40-page booklet (in German).

It is nice to see German DVDs that are English friendly. For a long time there were almost no English friendly DVDs in Germany (except maybe Fassbinders or some horrors released by X-Rated).

Are there any other German DVDs that are English friendly?

Are there any other Romy Schneider DVDs that have English subtitles?

If you don't have it already, I'd recommend "Le combat dans l'île", one of Romy Schneider's first decent dramatic roles after all those Sissi films. It's available in a UK edition with original French audio and optional English subtitles:

There's a ton of Romy Schneider DVDs listed at amazon.de, including almost all her German films from the 1950s (others are available in French editions). Sadly, none of those that I've seen have English subtitles except the ones in the box set mentioned above.

I do have this C'est la Vie DVD.

C'est la Vie DVD was a great label. Unfortunately it seems that they went out of business. Too bad because it was the only company that focused mostly on French cinema.

If you love Romy, I can't see how you can even hesitate .
Here are individual reviews for the films with a link to screenshots. Though the reviews are in German, you can see the main points by the %-rating. Generally the transfers are very good with the exception of the Chabrol which has a faded blue look though I'm not sure if it's not partly intended.
you get a very fluffy comedy (ENGEL AUF ERDEN) which is an example of the forgettable films she acted in in the 50s. You get an interesting remake (MÄDCHEN IN UNIFORM) which stands for some of the better films she made in Germany. Then there are three French films, none of them really bad, none a real masterpiece. In the last one you see Romy visibly ravaged by grief few months before her death which is an quite unforgettable thing despite the mediocrity of the film. And in the two films from 1974 you see her nude which is also worth something .
Sure a Sautet-Romy boxset would be better, but that's an actress where I buy every film on DVD unseen as I did with the box.

We need a better cleanup & transfer (and subtitling, sheez) of the original MADCHEN IN UNIFORM. I saw that title in your post & my heart jumped for a second thinking it was a bonus extra or something... until I realized. I suspect I'm stuck with the old Janus edition...

I've seen a few films with her so far; although the film itself is just OK, the greatest performance of Romy's I've seen is definitely L'Important c'est d'aimer, followed by Visconti's Boccaccio '70 segment. She's also very wicked and cute in The Trial and wonderfully sensual in 10:30 PM Summer.

Probably one of her sexiest roles. The chemistry between the two is remarkable and the soapish soundtrack quite well done actually. Unfortunately there really isn't a deserving print of this film.

The TF1 edition is lacklustre, but is not without its charms:
