According to angelfore.com/de/palma, there's talk of moving this picture to the stage as well as remaking it.... with the still very much alive Paul Williams.
And there's appearantly a documentary about Phantompalooza that might get released onto DVD, if we're lucky.

One only hopes that it gets included on an eventual R1 SE. God knows this film needs that treatment.

I really, really hope so. That docu was apparently made for the french SE. Fox would score a home run if they release a R1 SE in their Fall schedule: with their impending release of
Shock Treatment, I'm sure a lot of Jessica Harper's fans would be in heaven. Meanwhile, take a look at this english written review for the french release:

I wonder if Laurent Bouzereau is using his clout to get a special edition out (in time for The Black Dahlia on DVD, perhaps)? He seems to be steadily working his way through re-releases of the complete De Palma back catalogue, fanboy that he is.

How long does it take before a title goes OOP and gets a re-release announcement?

Blow Out is the one that needs a SE the most, I feel. The current transfer is typical of early MGM - quite soft, low bitrate (DVD-5 ?) and only the trailer. Fascinating film - superb editing; great use of diopters, as ever and quite possible Travolta's best performance and Lithgow's Burke is one of Cinema's most ruthless villains. It's my favourite De Palma film and one of the best examples of the 'Cinema of Process' and a fine companion piece to Coppola's, The Conversation, William Richert's, Winter Kills and Ettore Scola's 1977 film, Una Giornata particolare (A Special Day).

Wow - I was (sort of) right. At least the option's there for those who don't want to play wait-and-see for a potential R1 version.
