The current issue of DVD Review, a UK magazine has a good interview with Sir Ridley to coincide with the R2 release of the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut.
When asked about whether he would be revisiting any of his earlier works he thought Legend could be looked at again (the implication being he was keen to do it) but the bomb he dropped is going to be fantastic news for a few: he's apparently putting together a four-hour cut of 1492 with the intention of premiering it on HBO.

Damn. Has Scott directed a film that he won't re-edit?

A better idea than HBO is for the Criterion Collection to pick this film up and make a nice 4 disc boxset of it like what we saw recently with The Last Emperor. They could include both the Director's cut and Theatrical cut of 1492: Conquest Of Paradise. Gather a few extras, some cast and director participation, also some participation from Vangelis who composed the score, and what you'd probably have is a Criterion DVD/Blu-ray masterpiece.

Well, while it would premier on HBO, I'm sure we'd see a DVD release as well. Seeing the work done on the DVDs for some of Ridley's other movies, I'm sure a release like that wouldn't be out of the question.
