Great news, and this set is already looking better than the first. By the way, the first set is 37% off at
Amazon.

Except, perhaps, for Poppy (not seen) -- no dross here. Definitely a must-have!

With each film just over an hour, this could easily have been a lovely 2-disc set for $19.99 SRP.
The only extras are trailers, and it's $44.98 SRP!

Was hoping Million Dollar Legs would sneak in there.

I think someone is forgetting about the "affectionate look" at Fields!
The current set is too many discs as well.

Oh well, sure we could have saved $20 with a 2 discer, but personally I don't give a fig that it's spread out on 5 discs, it's still cheap enough. Isn't the main thing the fact that Universal HAS coughed more Fields up, and not left us hanging with only the first set?

yes but there are 5 films, so its only $9 per film.

Yes -- this IS the main thing. And maybe they will sweeten the pot a bit between now and February (not that I would count on this).

Has anyone bought the UK W. C. Fields 17 disc boxset? What does it have in terms of extras and subtitles? Can't find any reviews.

From what i can find its a 10 disc boxset with no indication of any extras, but it might have English subtitles and English for the hard of hearing subtitles.
Cheapest for the UK is £50 at
Zavvi...but i dont know if they ship out of the uk.
