I couldn't find a Huckabees thread. These YouTubes may be of interest.

BTW, I LIKE Huckabees!

Back before the days of NetFlix, I blind-bought the 2-disc set of this. Whoops

regardless of why this thread was started, I love this movie, Mark Wahlberg and Dustin Hoffman's characters in particular.

Somehow I always had the sneaking suspiscion that David O. Russell was a huge prick...

Oh man, now that I've seen them, I am totally on David O. Russells side, Lily Tomlin is a superbitch in those clips!

I got the feeling (and perhaps I'm wrong) that Tomlin was just blowing her fuse because Russell kept giving confusing direction. I remember reading a New York Times article from a while back claiming that Russell had all sorts of odd directions while shooting the film (I know that's vague but I read the article at least a year and a half ago or something like that). Besides the fact that I'm not sure if the car scene comes before or after the desk/office freak out...'cause I'd certainly want to tell Russell to go fuck himself after he freaked out like that.

Yeah. . . it wasn't so much that I wanted to see the movie, it was more that it warranted a 2-disc that I assumed it must be good. I am now much wiser in my dvd purchasing.

Russell's got a very on-the-fly directorial style that most people would describe as extraordinarily unprofessional. He doesn't storyboard, doesn't even prepare shotlists, and mostly places the camera in as many places as possible until he figures out what he likes best. It's not very efficient, and plus with a film like Huckabees, which relies on such a stylized manner of performance, it seems rather counterproductive. He apparently had the performers jumping through hoops on this set.

That said, neither one of them come off as very good in these clips. In particular, Russell's screaming "Act like a fucking grown-up!" is a choice bit of irony.

Here is an article from the time of Huckabees release that further illustrates the on set behavior of David O. Russell. Legend has it that George Clooney was about to beat the shit out of him on the set of Three Kings and Ice Cube had to separate them.

It seems that Clooney is the one who originally leaked the Huckabees clips to his friends in Hollywood, and they are just now turning up on YouTube. Some choice bits from the article:
'F- David O Russell,' Clooney has said. 'He's insane to the point of stupidity.' Russell's response is just as grown-up: 'George Clooney can suck my dick.'
the New York Times published an article - by a woman Russell thought a friend - describing how on the set of Huckabees the director tore off his clothes, whispered lewdly into his actresses' ears, grabbed one actor by the crotch, and, in a pre-production row about the availability of another star, Jude Law, put a rival director in a headlock…

Russell is indeed "a piece of work." He reportedly has no fixed address and operates out of other people's offices. No question that he's burned many bridges behind him (and George, if you want your cock sucked -- you know where to reach me.) But the proof is in the pudding. Three Kings remains the best film about the Gulf war and the mess we're in today, and Huckabees is beyond brilliant. The scene where Jason Schwartzman fights with his actual mother, Talia Shire, is amazing.

And I love Mary Tyler Moore's bra demonstration in Flirting with Disaster.

Wow I wish I wasn't too technologically retarded to know how to save vidclips. These are probably the 2 most useful clips I have ever seen on YouTube.

Thanks George Clueless if you are in fact responsible for disseminating these. Needless to say, Russell has more filmmaking talent in his little toenail than you have in your entire "brain".

But George Clooney already has one-up on Russell by not being the director of I Heart Huckabees.

Found them (at least I think these are the discussed clips):

I Hate Huckabees
I Hate Huckabees 2

Saving them shouldn't take too much effort. Just type in "ripping youtube videos" on your favorite search engine. Then again, I advise against such ghastly immoral piracy.

Not the same clips, sorry. Those are both small portions of the first one.

I know you asked Barmy, but Russell (from my knowledge, at least) is very far from a right-winged nut-job... He made a documentary for a re-release of Three Kings about the current Iraq conflict (but this was like three years ago) and the studio refused to release it due to its politics (supposedly berating Bush)

I searched for the second clip everywhere I could think, but It's too early for some of the forums I know will have this in downloadable form.

Until then, if someone finds it on a flash video site, www.keepvid.com has an easy way of downloading from pretty much any flash video site.

Poor Dustin Hoffman having to watch these two have a meltdown and act like a couple of spoiled children. He must've been thinking, "I'm getting too old for this shit."

We need so many more of these sorta clips to get out. Meltdowns-- maybe not this vicious but at least as funny-- common enough. Would humble a hell of a lot of hifalutin douche bags.

Not to mention excellent braindrain entertainment.

And Isabelle Huppert just turns to the camera and smiles sweetly, bored out of her mind. I love her.

I think Huppert comes off the WORST. She just fiddles with her hair and makeup, whilst Tomlin is having a MELTDOWN! Heartless Frenchie.
