Hi All,

Does anyone know of a French DVD release of a French documentary that showed footage from the Paris 68 student revolts ?

I'm sure there was one...but I can't seem to find it now..It was listed on IMDB as well-and I can't remember who the director was either-all very helpful I know !

I know there is the "Cinetracts" but it is not that-all I seem to remember was that it had a long name and there was no English subs on the DVD !

If anyone can help I would be very grateful and by the way has anyone see "Cinetracts" and is it worth hunting down ?

Thanks

As I recall the Antoine Doinel CC box set has some documentary material on the event. There's also an "Events of May '68" featurette on the Bertolucci DVD of The Dreamers.

As I recall there is also footage in the William Klein film Grands soirs et petits matins which is available on dvd in France.

There's a box set of May 68 films on MK2, and it's my understanding they all have subs

Some possibly relevant suggestions were made in this similar thread from last year.

Seconding Numéro 2, it sounds like you may be thinking of Klein's Grands soirs..., which ironically I haven't actually seen either.

One of the vey best films about May '68 is Garrel's Les Amants Reguliers. Made in 2005 it's going to get a U.S. release this year.

Which brings us full-circle to this post in this almost identically-themed topic.

Not quite a May '68 film, but since the Cinetracts were brought up I'll point out that Film-tract no. 1968, by Gerard Fromanger and Godard, is available on a DVD of shorts from Centre Pompidou. It's a neat little film too, a document of one of Fromanger's famed French flag paintings, where the red slowly oozes like blood across the flag to cover the other colors. As far as I know, the only Cinetract film available on DVD.

Well thanks all..

the one I could't think of was Grand Soirs and Petits Matins by William Klein...I don't know how I stumbled upon it originally ...but thanks for all your others links to May 68 things as well...all very appreciated.

By the wayhas anyone seen "Grand Soirs and Petits Matins" ?

Thanks all.

I can't find the boxed set either on MK2's site, but it contained these three films:

L'An 01
Mourir à trente ans
Coup pour coup

I've only seen Coup Pour Coup out of those three, as I bought the Marin Karmitz box set (thread on the box here). It's not a very good film but that it was a more popular May 68-related film at the time than Tout Va Bien in France can be illuminating. (You can hear Godard's thoughts on Karmitz's film on the interview on Criterion's disc)

One of the best documentaries about Mai 68 is William Klein's Grands soirs et petits matins (1978).
Arte Vidéo released an outstanding edition in 2004.

The boxed set is this. You can get it on alapage. I'm not sure all the discs are subtitled.

when it was listed on MK2's site they said it was subbed, but MK2 rarely subs the supplements, so buyer beware if that's a big factor for you

mk2 only lists English subs on Coup pour coup (which was released before the others as part of the aforementioned Karmitz set), not L'an 01 or Mourir à trente ans. Other sources seem to agree. It seems unlikely that'd they put subtitles on the boxed editions but not the standalone releases.

I have a copy of Grands soirs et petits matins 1968-78 available for a modest trade. I was under the impression it was an English language friendly release but afraid its not. No French subs either so you will need to be comfortable with spoken French. PM me if interested, and make an offer.
