...and spine 400 is damn near 70 spines away with an average of 40-50 spines released a year and 1/4 of 2006 already announced, placing it smack dab in the middle/end of what year?
Say it with me, everyone!

I'm sticking by my long lost prediction of spine 400.

EDIT: God, this thread makes me look like a douche... These were all one-off attempts at wit in random discussions, I swear to god I am not as responsible for this thread as I appear.

Gentlemen and Ladies, let me draw your attention to the fact that way back on this thread it was predicted by some of us that Berlin Alexanderplatz would occupy the very honourable spine #400. I think we can pat ourselves on the back for making this prediction which I believe will be confirmed soon...
...well done!

Considering that
If.... puts the spine count to #391 and that is June, plus the supposed e-mail listed in the Forthcoming List about
Berlin Alexanderplatz not being released until the end of 2007, I doubt it will be #400.
Also, Criterion has never seemed to make each 100th title released a big deal. Examples:
#100:
Beastie Boys Anthology
#200:
Fat Girl
#300:
The Life Aquatic

since several people have been assuming the 400 Spine will go to Berlin Alexanderplatz, it seems reasonable that we'd see this announced next month for August, yes?

According to the Forthcoming List thread, it isn't due until near the end of the year.

i agree with a post above-- i think it is supposed to come later in the year.
i think the emphasis on the 400 spine title is pretty arbitrary. anybody care to argue they went out of their way to make beastie boys = 100, honeymoon killers = 200, or life aquatic = 300?

well, didn't they announce Life Aquatic as #300 a few months before the spines caught up to it?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Criterion is holding back "Berlin Alexanderplatz" so that it can be spine number 400? I'm sure there are other reasons, but I can't shake that suspicion.

Sorry; I was too lazy to see if someone else had made this prediction. My bad.

so should we have a "400 Berlin Alexanderplatz" thread yet?

Anything to have something to talk about for August. The other August releases leave me... underwhelmed. Actually, I should thank Criterion, since I'll definitely watch them all on Netflix, but
probably won't be buying any (although I suppose you never know; I wasn't that interested in
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm, but it blew me away). Regardless, I've already done my part to keep Criterion in business for another year.

Do you think Breathless will take the 400 spot, or perhaps they'll squeeze Berlin Alexanderplatz in.

Since spine #400 is still "empty" and we have just 3 new titles announced, perhaps they will add in a few days "Breathless" (aka A Bout de Souffle)

So this will probably be spine #400.

Ha Ha...the folks at Criterion have given us a puzzle...How could Berlin Alexanderplatz be spine 400 when it is going to be a multi-disc set (obviously)? When there is going to be other releases in the spine 399 and 401 slots?
Answer: Just like in the Brasil boxset, they will reserve spines for each disc as 400 + a tenth! i.e. 400.1, 400.2, 400.3, etcetera...these guys are so smart!

But... Isn't Berlin Alexanderplatz considered... just one film?

Why is everyone is fantasizing on what spine #400 will be? When has Criterion ever released anything according to the location of spine??? I wouldn't be surprised if spine #400 is something minor.
Some statistics...
Spine #100 Beastie Boys Video Anthology
Spine #200 The Honeymoon Killers
Spine #300 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The same way Tanner 88 was only one spine.
