Personally, I find the whole situation pretty amusing.
It seems to me that everyone has been holding off buying Kill Bill because there is so obviously a double-dip coming.
Meanwhile, the producers are holding off releasing the Special-Edition because nobody bought the earlier editions.

Because we're all on this message board, I feel comfortable asking: doesn't it suck to know what money-grubbing bastards the dvd companies are, and doesn't it suck even worse to know that you'll still play their evil game over and over and over again?
That said, I held off on the dvds because I knew there'd eventually be a special edition. Frankly, I hope they release it in a figure-8 style case or something similar. Shelf space is too valuable right now.
I'm wondering what extras exactly would make this edition "special." Personally, I'd like a commentary by QT and David Carradine, plus some Hattori Hanzo footage.

My sister keeps telling me to buy Kill Bill, and I keep saying I can't, that I have to wait for the special edition, and she's like "what?", and I'm like "there's going to be a better one coming out and I don't want to buy it again."

that date has been changing ever since the "whole bloody affair" edition was mentioned by tarantino. Until there's an official announcement and some box-art, I won't be getting my hopes up.

Word has it that the Weinsteins are test-marketing releasing the film split as two separate parts, be sure to keep an ear to the ground on how this works out three years ago.

I'll be damned, I really thought this was going to be one of those things Tarantino kept promising and never delivered... like a good movie!
I kid, I kid.

I am insanely excited, and if I weren't 100% positive that $40 was way too high, I'd pre-order this right now!

Some box art would be the refreshing beverage to - wash it down.

So they're releasing Grindhouse as 2 seperate DVDs, too, huh? Where have I been?
I'm afraid I'm going to have to skip this and Kill Bill now.

I'm looking forward to finally seeing this, but like most people I'm sure I would have been more excited two years ago.
Does it seem to anyone else like the Weinsteins are placing the blame for Grindhouse's failure solely on the shoulders of Robert Rodriguez? Pretty much every review I read of Grindhouse called Death Proof the weaker half of the package, and even the reports of the extended version don't seem very promising.

Dunno. I personally liked Death Proof more, even if it wasn't really an homage to "grindhouse" films. Though I remember hearing at one point that the Weinstein's were very much indebted to Anthony Minghella and Tarrantino, and all other directors they treated like they owned.

According to last rumors the dvd will be titled: "Death Proof: The version Rodriguez didnt' want you to see"

I had a feeling they were gonna do this.
It's a good thing I held back buying the other editions.

unless this new version features only the interwoven full saga, and not the very well paced halves. I'm pretty happy with having Vol 1 and 2 seperately as well as the "whole bloody affair" as it were.
