I figured this would be the only place to pose this question (and I apologize if someone mentioned it in a previous thread), but why/when did Michael Radford's adaptation of 1984 go out-of-print on DVD? I was strolling through a used DVD section at a shop I frequent and they had a used copy with an OOP sticker on it with an absurd price-tag of $89.99.

They also had A Clockwork Orange listed as OOP with a $39.99 sticker. I checked on Amazon and they have no copies available so perhaps this is a sure sign that the 2-disc edition will arrive this coming fall.

They had a few other OOP discs which made sense (Fantastic Planet, A Taxing Woman), but I'm really just curious about the 1984. Anyone with any knowledge, I'd love to know.

It must've just happened recently because I still see copies of it all the time at my local Best Buy and Borders. Which, if it is true, I might as well snag a copy and try to sell it off.

Clockwork Orange is, indeed OOP, but the value varies depending on which version of the DVD it is (the original 1999 discs are worth more than the later reissues). Still, at my store we've only been selling them for $15 max, since they're getting rereleased at Christmas and the other fact that there seems to be a glut used Kubrick discs out there right now - and I'm sure there will be millions more when the new boxset comes out.

On another used-DVD note, I picked up the Fox Lorber Nostalghia disc at a pawn shop for a few bucks yesterday.

$89.99 is the price listed on Amazon's Used and New marketplace, so they must used that as the arbiter.

The region 1 edition was released in 2003 in full colour, without the Eurythmics soundtrack, am I right?

The 2004 UK region 2 edition was in the original desaturated colour with the Eurythmics soundtrack, am I right?

I don't own either edition, so I can't be certain. Perhaps, MGM are planning a SE for region 1 with the desaturated colour, Eurythmics soundtrack, etc.

And the UK is still available, so Region 2 land wins again this time.

When I caught wind theat 1984 was in high demand, I sold my copy on eBay for $79.
