Here's the announcement from Variety a few months ago. Hereis a new still from the set featuring a fat, schlubby, middle-aged Crowe which, as anyone who has seen The Insider will tell you, is the very best kind.
Russell Crowe will join Leonardo DiCaprio in "Body of Lies," the William Monahan-scripted adaptation of the David Ignatius novel that Ridley Scott will direct for Warner Bros.

Donald De Line and Scott are producing; pic shoots in the fall.

Crowe will play Ed Hoffman, the manipulative CIA boss who teams with operative Roger Ferris (DiCaprio) to trap a dangerous Al Qaeda leader by planting a false rumor that the bomber is in cahoots with the Americans. Crowe has been working steadily with Scott since "Gladiator," teaming on "A Good Year," the recently completed "American Gangster" and the upcoming "Nottingham," a Universal and Imagine drama that will go into production early next year.

Crowe has been courted to play the CIA boss since DiCaprio signed on in April. He's awaiting a polish by "American Gangster" scribe Steve Zaillian before formally committing.

ZOMG! It's like the Bourne Identity meet The Departed! #-o

And what on Earth is that accent DiCaprio is throwing around?

And what's up with Russell Crowe's hair?! It's like his character from The Insider with a buzz cut. Very odd.

does anyone else wish Ridley Scott would just go way at this point...? .....
Tony is making much better films these days. I will forever remain a Deja Vu apologist, even though my friends think i'm crazy when I say I think its a really interesting flick

This looks about as good as American Gangster, read: utter shit posing as prestige action flick. Leave this to Michael Mann, whose moderately successful schtick was tired a decade ago.

I'm sure Ridley, Leo, and Russell will all go on Charlie Rose to discuss how this film is such an important statement on the war on terror while Charlie has all he can do to restrain himself from blowing a middle-brow load in his pants before jetting off to Davos or the Bohemian Grove and giving some speech on the utility of neo-colonialism

More right-wing apologia then.

Perhaps we should let them at least make the film first...?

(Nah, this is criterionforum!)

If I don't like any of the ingredients in the recipe, I don't need to taste the final dish.

DiCaprio with douchebag facial hair + Ridley Scott post 1982 + callow attempt at contemporary relevance = cinematic shit

Yeah, well, I don't like eggs but I'll eat cake. The trailer is just marketing... who the fuck knows what's in the final movie and to what degree. Trailers contain scenes that don't make the final cut, alternate takes, deliberate red-herrings. I couldn't even make out the story, frankly.

I'm not the world's biggest Ridley Scott fan, but I'll at least let the guy make the movie before I jump up his ass over what I think is in it. Looks terrible? Maybe. But that shit could be Blade Runner for all we know. Could be his Citizen Kane.

At best it could be his Orson Welles cameo on the Dean Martin Show.

Warner's thinking behind this must have been that this newer trailer wouldn't have fared as well opening up for The Dark Knight as the first one probably would have. The first trailer had much more of an action vibe than this one did. I'd expect to see this behind possible Oscar bait if it is at all a bumper for another movie.

Get ready for a little bit of Chinese Democracy over the end credits.

Another film claiming the mantle of Three Days of the Condor:

Pollack's film is beginning to look like the most important american text of the 70s.
