Ok, so I had an hour to kill (I was baking a wonderful fig cake for Christmas) and I went through all the films that were originally released on VHS (remember it?) under the Midnite Movies banner that still are not out on DVD. Here they are:

Master of the World
Conqueror Worm
Jesse James meets Frankenstein's Daughter
High School Hellcats
The Incredible Melting Man
Quatermass Experiment
Burn Witch Burn
The Brain that wouldn't die
Konga
The Phantom Planet
The Amazing Transparent Man

There are some on this list that are highly desirable DVDs since MGM started to put out the line on the new format. Maybe next time, who knows!

About Pajama Party, Bucket of Blood, Frogs and Tales of Terror. These four titles used to have the MM banner on them in their previous VHS encarnation. So, I guess that's where the misunderstanding came from. That's all for now. Have a pleasant evening!

I loved the The Trip/Psych-Out disc, but then they went Best Buy exclusive, which is bollocks.

You can buy them from www.dvdsoon.com or if you're in Europe, try www.loaded247.com

Countess Dracula/Vampire Lovers

I'm hoping that sooner or latter Blood on Satan's claw comes out. I would have thought by now since Anchor Bay UK put out there DVD that MGM would have paired it up with Conqueror Worm.

I have the single release of EMPIRE OF THE ANTS. Aside from the fact that there's an extra film on the re-release, does anyone know if the transfer is different? The single release is anamorphic--just looking for advice before I trade up. And when is someone going to release FOOD OF THE GODS for chrissakes?

You missed:

The Haunted Palace / Tower of London

which was the only one available for ordering after the Best Buy announcement broke, and contains two off-the-beaten-path Corman flicks (being that they are adaptations of Lovecraft and Shakespeare, respectively), both of which were pretty interesting for this Corman fan.

I know it was briefly mentioned above, but is there going to be a release of The Conqueror Worm? Is there a good foreign version? I finally saw it a few months ago and I just love Vincent Price in it. It's one of the bleakest movies ever!
Any answers greatly appreciated.

Here it is (the UK got a different title):

As far as a R1 MGM Midnite Movies release is concerned, nothing has been announced or even rumored, although it is one of the most requested titles in the line.

First review of a title from the new batch is up at the Beaver and it really looks stellar! Let's hope the rest fares as well:

Can somebody list all the Double Features which include films directed by Roger Corman? So far I found these:

The Trip/Psych-Out
Tomb of Ligeia/An Evening of E. A. Poe
Comedy of Terrors/The Raven
Masque of Red Death/The Premature Burial

Am I missing any?

and:

Wild in the Streets/Gas-s-s-s
House of Usher/The Pit and the Pendulum
Tales of Terror/Twice Told Tales
Haunted Palace/Tower of London
Wild Angels/Hell's Belles

though technically, Psych-Out, An Evening of EAP, Comedy of Terrors, Wild in the Streets, Twice Told Tales and Hell's Belles are not Corman films. But these are the double features currently available containing his films.

FYI, these are the Corman single title Midnite Movies editions waiting for a future double-billing:

Bucket of Blood
X - the Man with the x-ray eyes

It's great that the Beaver is starting to include some Midnite Movies reviews/comparisons.

First, we had Last Man on Earth. And now, Countess Dracula. Let's just hope that more are forthcoming. And the big plus is that the results only go to show that this collection is very carefully put together and the final results are a winner (and at THAT price, can you really argue?).

And the rollercoaster of reviews for the new discs have begun! Here are two more:

* The Mini-Skirt Mob/Chrome and Hot Leather

* Last Man on Earth/Panick in Year Zero

These reviews are great. Thanks Annie.

Can you or someone else give a run-down of what to expect from each of these new double-features. In terms of the film, that is. I need to decide which ones to get (or which to get first) and I'd like to know--since most of these I haven't seen--which will be the best. Of course this is subjective, but maybe someone can give it a try.

I haven't seen any of those that just came out but I'm definitely buying the Vincent Price ones, if that's any help! You can't go wrong with Vinnie, can you? ;)

As for the others, if you're really into AIP (American International Pictures) films or are curious about them, then look no further - this is B-movie fun! Here are some handy links:

Does anyone happen to know if the new releases are still scheduled to come out today (22 March)? I ask because upon investigation of Best Buy's website The Mini-Skirt Mob is listed as being released on 6 June, and there's no listing at all for Last Man on Earth.

Damn, I'm looking forward to these.

Another day, another Midnite Movies DVD review. Life is sweet.

Oh, I love Donavan's Brain! But I have yet to get around to ordering the DVD.

Another thing that I love DVD Beave is the adverts for the books on vintage films. Ackerman's and Hershenson's poster and lobby card collections of horror and sci-fi from the Golden Age are truly gorgeous.

Annie M.,
Thanks for the link. I've never ordered from them, but it appears that even with shipping, these will still be cheaper than buying them at Best Buy.

And FYI, I went to two different BB's last night, and none of them were in stock - which leads me to believe that the June release date is probably correct.

Duh...Jesus, I`m lazy. I actualy even own Haunted Palace/Tower of London.

I think it kinda sucks they they pulled the Midnite Movies Box. It had X and some other three flicks for a nifty price. This way, I`ll hold out until an inevitable Double Feature.

By the by, Annie, since you seem to be the expert on these, outside of the Corman stuff, which would be other recommended blind buys?

I'm hardly an expert. Just an enthusiast, that's all. But I do recommend The Wild Angels (also by Corman) or anyone of the so-called "Biker Movies". They're really great fun, if you're into them. And lately, I've acquired the strange taste of loving the "Beach Party Movies". Maybe that's because they remind me of John Waters' Hairspray, I think...;)

For real cheese, go to Bert I. Gordon's movies (Mr. BIG himself!) - Attack of the Puppet People and the like - guaranteed mattinee fun!

Thanks a bunch for the recos. :)

As for the beach party movies, I dug the hell out of 2001`s "Psycho Beach Party" which, I`d imagine, owes a lot to those flicks you mention. So, I`ll probably give those a spin somewhere down the line.
