Kelly has a film in post-production, a horror film starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden.
Arcade Fire are
scoring the film

I could have sworn we talked about this on the board but I searched and couldn't find anything. There was a new Twilight Zone episode based on the same short story, can't wait to see how Kelly ruins this one.

Well, the two leads are certainly frightening.

Here's the Wiki'd summary of the TZ ep if anyone wants some idea of what they're in for.

I'll just watch the Simpsons Halloween Special episode with the monkey's paw instead. Though Kelly's film might be just as funny.

He did wonders with The Rock; maybe he can do the same for CamDi.

Just as I was wondering what (or even when and if) he had as a new film in the works...

Okay, so Arcade Fire
aren't scoring the film, but a few of the members might do some music for the film.

Is this guy even trying anymore? He seems to be just trying to put together films based on the goofiest of concepts hoping that people will buy into the "so bad it's good" thing.

I'm just trying to figure out how that short story is a movie, because as a little fifteen minute segment in an anthology, it would work-- it's a one-note morality fable, like most TZ-fodder stories. I'm also more than a little confused at how a movie about three people and a box costs $30 million.

I'm with you on this. I don't look at any other message boards and this whole thing is really really familiar. I know I've read, at fairly great lengths, about this...but where? Mr. Serling is getting lazy.

This sort of concept was done about as well as it can be for the sixties Outer Limits episode Don't Open Till Doomsday (which, by the way, was beautifully shot by Conrad Hall). Then when you add the sixties Alfred Hitchcock Hour update of The Monkey's Paw and the sixties Twilight Zone episode Five Characters in Search of an Exit one really has no use for this.

Yeah, but Richard Kelley will throw in several 80s references, cast pop stars and hire a guy in a rabbit suit. Surely, that's pretty original, right? (Fanboys agree.)

Perhaps your opinion would carry more weight if you could correctly spell Kelly's name.

The film gets a
distant release date of September 11, 2009.

I'll bet Kelly requested that date in an effort to be edgy.

CF is supposed to be a place of reasoned, intelligent discussion isn't it? Being pithy is one thing, being snarky is another. Sure Kelly is not in control of his movies but they are interesting if nothing else. Definitely better than the average multiplex fare nowadays, right? Imagination in a script is a good thing. Sheesh, he get's credit from me just for being hated by studio executives and CF snarks!

Juno is a better movie than
Southland Tales, and I think
Juno is a terrible piece of shit.

Well at least we agree that Juno is a horrible example of American screenwriting and filmmaking. But I disagree that Southland Tales is a total failure. I would classify it as a fascinating blunder.

So it turns out Arcade Fire's Win Butler, Régine Chassagne and Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett did
score the film. So if this film is the unwatchable trainwreck it will probably be, at least you can close your eyes and get something of value out of it.

Southland Tales is like some kind of horrible traffic accident. Rarely have I seen anything so mindbogglingly inept. The man is a hack. He ruined his debut feature by repackaging it with new scenes and endless ancillary material and viral marketing which viewers were expected to trawl through in lieu of his letting his weird little indie be what it was for people. SLT took that to a whole new extreme.

SLT is the best film made in America since 1970. Nuff said.
Can't say I'm looking forward to The Box, howevs.
