DVDBeaver comparison of the DVD with the new Blu-ray release.

Amazing improvement. To be fair, I think it has more to do with the format (i.e. BD's greater resolution) than the transfer - details aren't great, but the general 'tonality' of the DVD captures looks all right.

I'm not a huge fan of the movie itself, but Nicholson's still great.

To be fair, wasn't the 2-disc edition released in 2002 a significant improvement on the 1997 release?

I thought so. Perhaps that would have been a better source for the comparison?

WB is re-releasing the film on Blu-ray in an Ultimate Collector's edition. The only difference between this and the 2008 release is the additional crap they are putting inside the oversized box.

I'm afraid that's not the case. Blu-ray.com is wrong. According to the press release, the new Blu-ray disc will include a brand new interview with producer Michael Douglas and the complete 86 min. 'Completely Cuckoo' documentary for the first time since the 1997 LD.

It's possible these will be on a 2nd disc DVD. We'll just have to wait and see.

But they deleted the redundant 47 min. 'Making of' on the list of special features with the inclusion of the feature-length documentary. Anyway I agree we should wait and see.

True.

I will say that the longer doc + lossless audio on this specific title won't be enough for me to repurchase.
