I just noticed that Amazon.com is carrying a new version a Tampopo from Itami productions.

I just received this edition of A Taxing Woman, also by "Itami Productions". It bears all the marks of a bootleg: the exact same menus as the Geneon disks, single layered, region free, not copy protected, the "Imp ID" is Nero (not Scenarist, Spruce etc) and the back cover looks like an edited scan of the Japanese (region code is 0 instead of 2).
I haven't seen their Tampopo disk, but...

I think this is probably a bootleg version. I'm surprised that Amazon would be carrying it. (I see nothing to indicate that this apparent clone of the new Japanese DVD (but much cheaper) has been released by a legitimate company).

It's not the first time that amazon.com has carried bootlegs (remember the White Dog DVD?). I was expecting that some company release Tampopo after the New Yorker DVD went OOP, but I'm not going to pay more than $5 to get a bootleg from the Geneon disc, even if this one has a better transfer that the previous version.
