Apatow's next is about the world of stand up comedy, and stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman.

Here's the poster.

Well, having your film focus on stand-up comedians is certainly not a bald-faced plot device to be able to copy-and-paste the hilarious riffs you make with your friends while high, and not have to bother with actually coming up with original characters or an interesting story.

That's one way to look at it. Or you can consider that Judd Apatow got his start in stand-up (as did many of the people he works with, including his one-time roommate Adam Sandler), and that he may actual know something about the world he's writing about.

And so does Eric Bana for that matter so he may not be as out of place in that cast as one first might think. Furthermore, since when is writing dialog that is exactly like the way people actually talk a bad thing? I don’t think Apatow is the first screenwriter to listen to his friends and write what he hears…

Here's the film's MySpace page which reveals the additions of the RZA and Aziz Ansari to the cast.

Has Hollywood learned nothing from Punchline?

That it can be done better? By, say, not casting Sally Fields?

Apatow makes good movies, he's awesome, and Adam Sandler is awesome too, he makes movies good no matter what they are about or who is directing them, Going Overboard specifically. This will definitely be an awesome movie.

Adam Sandler fits in two types of films, those where he is used/casted from an outside-ish party, and the films that his production company produces with him in mind.

I know that people see Adam Sandler in a movie poster and condemn it cause they never saw a movie with Adam Sandler in it and think that seeing a movie with Adam Sandler in it will destroy some kind of reputation of not ever seeing a movie with Adam Sandler in it.

I was impressed with the way he used Adam Sandler's full name four times in the same sentence

At first I thought that was a newbie post, but no, he's been here a while--in which case I predict he was either drunk or making a joke.

And three of those four times he's in it.

OK, now I'm interested.

Norm's roast of Bob Saget is the funniest performance of the year.

Agreed. Supposedly Comedy Central re-edited the roast to give the impression that the audience was laughing at Norm MacDonald's jokes. Definitely channeling Andy Kaufman. Has he finally found his voice?

Here's the way too long, plot-point by plot-point trailer.

Couldn't get past 1:30. The 17 Again trailer is far funnier (mostly because of Thomas Lennon):

Having read the script the film plays more like a straight drama than a comedy to me although the delivery of the funny men involved will probably be the deciding factor.

That killed off all interest I had in this movie. Thank you viral marketing.
