Has anyone heard if Vincent Gallo's film has gotten a release date in any region?

isn't there a blurred japanese release? wellspring are going to do a dvd release for north america (for 2005 was the original announcement and i can't see why they'd wait) so it's just a matter of a bit of patience at this point (i hope).

Anyone know if Wellspring has plans to put out both versions of the film in a 2 disc set?

I think it's a phenomenal film and has been vastly underrated by many who only associate it with the BJ controversy and the negative reception at Cannes. Whatever his eccentricities might be as a person (or as an interview subject), I think he deserves to be taken very seriously as a filmmaker, because The Brown Bunny is simply stunning. As it stands it would probably make my top 10 for the decade so far.

I noticed the review of the Dutch edition on DVD Beaver just now, but apparently it lacks the commentary on the Japanese DVD, which is too bad, otherwise I'd have definitely considered importing... It seems that currently both releases are flawed: the Dutch for lacking commentary, the Japanese for being optically censored.

Would the news of a superbit disc mean the commentary is nixed for R1? I can't recall a previous SB disc w/ a track, I would guess due to the use of maximum space for audio & image. But I'm sure somebody can prove me wrong? If not, time to fork over the $40 for 1 1/2 hours of audio galloism, I guess.

Hmm. On the one hand I think the movie's look definitely deserves to be given the best treatment possible, so I like that it's going to be a Superbit release. On the other, I really would like to hear Gallo's thoughts on the film. An additional audio track isn't that large, right? I mean a 2ch AC3 track with decent compression shouldn't run more than 150mb or something for 90 minutes, correct? On a DVD-9, that's nothing.

Can someone fill me in on the twist ending? I'm probably not going to see this movie but I would like to know what a twist ending has to do with real fellatio on camera. Just PM me.

The Brown Bunny

Director Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny is headed to DVD on August 16th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Due as part of the "Superbit Edition" line, the notorious film arrives in its 92-minute unrated cut with an anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround. Sole extras are trailers. Retail is $24.96.

First it was Kubrick's Barry Lyndon lenses, then it was his semen. Now, it seems Gallo's back on eBay. Apparently, he said that "he'd rather have shoes." I can't tell who has had the longest running gag - Gallo or Crispin Glover.

Crispin Glover was loitering in the lobby after I got out of Antichrist and it was one of those surreal moments that just made perfect sense

New film in Cannes 2010, sez Wikipedia. As one of the seemingly few people who genuinely loved The Brown Bunny, I am beyond thrilled with this announcement given Gallo's past statements about never directing again.

Check out the history for that article. I am not unwilling to entertain the possibility that some of the weirder edits came from Gallo.

Sounds like an elaborate publicity gimmick to me (come on: Bob Aspirin?) How else do you sell a purported 'snuff film' except by trying to convince the gullible that lines really were crossed?
