The news made my day. Conan was at its peak during the Andy Richter days.

Although I feel sorry that Richter was never able to get his career off the ground. Andy Richter Controls the Universe was one of the few sitcoms I actually watched.

Gonna start watching the Tonight Show, I guess. Last night's show was fun (and so was Fallon, weirdly). I enjoyed the opening montage quite a lot - was that Monument Valley he ran through? I'm no good at identifying scenery.

I'm pretty sure it was, though the "monument" in the background didn't look quite as grand as the ones Ford photographed. I loved this opening bit too -- I kind of rolled my eyes at first with the "move to LA" note on the checklist, but the longer they stretched it out, the more I laughed. I loved his sprint through Wrigley Field and his stop-off at the Victorian Doll Museum.

The Onion nailed our boy a couple years ago.

I did love the bit of Conan acting as a tour guide on the Universal lot. Circle! Circle! Circle!

Someone uploaded some excellent classic Kilborn clips on Youtube and man, it just made so me sad that there's not a show like that on the air anymore. Yambo, Five Questions, the ludicrously self-inflated position his own writers gave themselves within the show, the running jokes built around non-events like the Countdown to Dido, &c

Kilborn was my favorite too. I'd like to see Mr. Bring Your Stuff guy again. Him and the Robert Goulet Christmas card were some of my fonder memories of that show.

Someone edited it so that it doesn't make any sense without context, but this is one of my favorite Late Late Show moments: Kilborn had provided Roger Ebert with a list of possible new catchphrases for his show and they settled on "This movie is sweeter than curly fries," which he never ended up using. Kilborn was bitter about it but tried to get another television personality to take up his catchphrase suggestions. And unlike Ebert, Bob Costas was true to his word and later uttered the nonsensical catchphrase "That is restaurant-quality lemonade" on the next nationally-televised ballgame he called. =D>

My favorite Kilborn moments were from his SportsCenter days, like when he narrated Charles Barkley slam dunks with lines like, "Here comes the Chuckwagon!"

Reading all the posts about Kilborn make me sad that I never caught him while he was on late night.

I saw about a half hour of Conan tonight and maybe it's because I'll take anyone over Leno, but I really enjoyed the show. I only saw the guest interviews though so I don't know if the opening monologue was any good - although I've never been a fan of opening monologues in general, I usually just watch late night shows for the interviews and skits.

Also, just have to say that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a cutie.

Kilborn was great, and unlike a lot of the late night guys (Conana especially) his interviews were often the best part of the show.
Comparing him to Fallon is a sad joke. Fallon sucks.

Doesn't help; he's still awful.

Flashing Nintendo Conan gave me a chuckle.

Now I am really curious if this was a blatant homage. The two backgrounds match up almost too well.

Just in case, for those not paying attention, it looks that Leno and NBC are now poised to stab the better comic in the back once again.

This shows that Jerry Zucker is the worst, most inept network executive ever. Even worse than Michael Eisner.

This might give Kilborn a chance to slither back to late night somehow! After Conan, perhaps? Please, Fox? Please?

I used to flick back and forth between them like a madman, I miss those days. And Bill Maher was on every night too! Now you couldn't pay me to watch any of the late night shows, sadly including the watered down Conan we've been getting at 11:30.

I have a feeling the format is just tired and none of these changes will fix anything.

Conan has actually been improving since this debacle started. He's gotten his edge and snark back. Now if he would only move back to NY!

Conan says he won't do Tonight Show Following Leno.
