Thank frigging god. What a film-- and a great document of what 72,d & Broadway used to look like and has morphed from so severely it's almost Times Square terms. This is the performance that got Paramount to take Coppola seriously at last viz his endless lobbying of Pacino-- they thought the dude was just some lanky doink and a total joke... until they saw some rushes from this film.

Carlotta Films in France brought out PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK on DVD three years ago -- excellent (if not perfect) transfer, filled with lots of specially produced extra features which will by all probability not be included on the upcoming US edition.

It seems that Carlotta had Jerry Schatzberg's full cooperation on this: 45 minutes of on-screen interviews (all in English with optional French subtitles, same as the main feature), plus a commentary for 5 hand-picked scenes. Quite a feat, and hard to beat. For details (in French), see here

Should Fox bring this title out as a bare-bones DVD, Schatzberg must feel as disappointed as Noel Black when Fox didn't care to get their hands on the audio commentary and deleted-scene feature produced by Second Sight for the British DVD release.

Who knew The Panic in Needle Park was seven hours long...and directed by Bela Tarr of all people!

EDIT: don't mind my half-assed, or more approriately, third-assed attempts at cleverness...I just saw the opportunity and tried to run with it.

What's the deal with this film. I have a feeling we'll never get it on DVD.

One of these releases (Panic in Needle Park, Author Author or Pacino box set) makes the other 2 delayed.

Beaver. Thankfully, it appears Fox didn't screw up another transfer.
