exactly, you can't eat your cake and show it off on your shelf too.justeleblanc wrote:I guess this whole problem would have been solved if they had the two openings along the spines as opposed to the top and bottom, of course then you wouldn't have the glorious spine porn this forum feeds on.

We rent them seperately, but for whatever reason (probably because our shelves are pretty warped) the slimline cases don't sit on our shelves very well. We lost the box for our Anchor Bay Herzog set and those DVDs are constantly falling on the floor. It's a silly thing to complain about, but a lot of the recent Criterions that come in boxes (Veronique, Dazed & Confused, etc) rent like crazy and those boxes are in close to mint shape. I just put a bit of packing tape on the edges of the Bergman set, hopefully that will keep it from falling apart. Why don't you separate the films for rentals?

I'm sorry but, as heartless consumers, we have every right to expect the very best, especially from a vanguard company like CC. In my mind the lack of supplements is enough compensation for the low price. That's totally acceptable. Bottom line: beyond the arena of personal taste, the hard cold fact is that the packagaing could have been better.kekid wrote:It is a steal at the price it is being offered.
I agree that we do not have the right to expect fancy packaging and extras in Eclipse offerings.

I've been snickering at the Eclipse packaging issues, but having just received mine yesterday I have to agree...it is a dumb way to package these things. I do like the ultra thin plastic cases though.domino harvey wrote:Does anyone really find this packaging to be preferable to a closed top and bottom box with open spine?

I have no problem with the packaging. Besides, you can alway throw the sleeve away if it causes you so much frustration. What do you do with DVDs that don't come packaged in sets? Or do you only buy sets?domino harvey wrote:I bought new shoes but they didn't have holes for laces. That's okay though, I just have to make sure I don't run too fast. Why are people making excuses for this packaging... Does anyone really find this packaging to be preferable to a closed top and bottom box with open spine?

Again with making it the consumer's problem! I paid for a boxed set, I want the box.Derek Estes wrote:I have no problem with the packaging. Aren't you and alot of people forgetting the fact that what you're buying should be the films themselves, not just the packaging? I mean this all goes back to the madness that erupted over the Viridiana cover, and sure it was ugly and ultimately the cover art was changed, but shouldn't the fact that Viridiana was finally being released please someone enough?domino harvey wrote:Again with making it the consumer's problem! Yes the Eclipse boxes are kinda awkward, some are shouting inconvenient, but when it boils down to it, if I can get 4-5 films from Bergman, Malle, Ozu or whoever else comes along, I could really care less what the packaging looks like, especially when I'm buying it for less than $50. Some folks are just too hard to please...

ok i just received my early bergman set and the packaging truly is ridiculous. The thinpaks fall out and slide all over the place, and its generally very inconvient.
Criterion, you really should please change these boxes for eclipse. Just any regular box (with a top and bottom amazingly enough!) would be better than this. #-o
