3 Norman Mailer films - Beyond the Law, Wild 90, and Maidstone. Got mine in the mail today - forced French subs, unfortunately...

I studied under this guy and hung around with his stepson... someone help me out here, french problem-- are these films directed by him?

Does that mean there is more than the *cough* ahem "innaresting" TOUGH GUYS DON'T DANCE? I never thought he'd be let near a camera again..

Yep, all three were directed by Mailer.

And D.A. Pennebaker was cinematographer for Beyond the Law and Maidstone.

Info on all three films here, and here's the scene from Maidstone where Rip Torn attacks Mailer with a hammer. "That's an actor for you!" No sign of Hervé Villechaize though.

I saw "Tough" and "Maidstone" last night as part of Norman Mailer week (or whatever it is). Not sure why "Tough" is considered crap. Yes, a trainwreck, but so what. How can you hate a film where Isabella Rossellini shoots her husband for calling her "small potatoes"?

"Maidstone" was good for the first half where he is interviewing women for a "nudie" film, but then goes off the rails. The Rip Torn fight scene seemed faux to me.
