And by "gay," surely you mean:Cinephrenic wrote:Then they will start changing tints of the colors making your shelf look as gay as possible.it's going to be funny when they start running out of color combinations for eclipse releases.
Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry. Bright or lively, especially in color: a gay, sunny room.
Because a homosexual shelf would just be preposterous.

Generally when pdfs get sent out there needs to be SOME cover available to show off the title, but the cover doesn't have to be officially locked for another month or so. Since most retailers wait for an official cover and criteriondvd.com prefers to be on the bleeding edge, I'm guessing that criteriondvd just put up the temporary cover while the real one is being tweaked and adjusted. I wouldn't expect anything too different, but I'm sure it won't be identical.

I think we're all hoping that it is some sort of placeholder for the actual cover. As you and someone else stated - adding to this is the fact that the Criterion website hasn't officially uploaded it as the cover yet.Dante Vescio wrote:Oh come on, it can't be the real cover.
It's just awful.
I think it's fan cover because the official Criterion webpage still didn't put up the cover yet.
The more I stare at it - the less I dislike it. I bet this is one of those covers that looks much better when you actually have it in your hands or stare at it from a distance. At least they didn't place a knocked-over glass of milk and have the milk trail off in different directions on a table that resemebles that of the last supper and use it as the cover (although now I think it'd be kind of groovy).

I don't know. I still think it is pretty bad. It just doesn't have the "texture" or "feel" of a final cover. There is something that just feels amateur about it, it feels like a Photoshop job. I don't know if it is the color, or the quality of the image behind the arrows, but I don't think it is final, or at least I hope it isn't.

"Fan cover" and "temporary cover used just so that distributors could look at something - ANYTHING" are not the same thing. The fact that Criterion hasn't put it up yet just means they're still working on it, but they have to have SOMETHING to show distributors when they make their announcements.Dante Vescio wrote:Oh come on, it can't be the real cover.

C'mon people, this isn't the first time we've seen a temporary cover. If..., Pandora's Box, Viridiana, Dazed and Confused, Six Moral Tales, etc. all changed before going to print.

If you look at the base of the 3rd arrow down from the top right it's not smoothly joined to the rest, and there's only one other jag, so this isn't part of the look, it's evidence that this is just a rough layout. I was joking when I said I liked it but it is interesting conceptually. The flat tint is the worst part so once that alone is worked out it'll look 100% better. I agree that's it a temp.
