Bunuel started calling it a trilogy only after all three films were done, so take it for what it's worth. I think it makes sense, though -- they certainly seem to be of a piece with each other.justeleblanc wrote:Never heard of that trilogy. I typically group the Pinal titles in one trilogy, that's it.

The Milky Way cover art reminds me of old piano sheet music that my mother had lying around when I was a kid -- especially the font and color choices. The sheet music would have dated around the same time as the film and most of them were for hymns or at least religious-themed songs.
i.e. The cover is gloriously dead-on as far as I'm concerned.

so ever since the new look of criterion has been bestowed upon us, i've had a few points about the cases. first off these cases have become very "anti-bootleg." the clear case with the double sided artwork i.e. fires on the plain would be pretty hard to recreate.
another thing i like is the fact that criterion is releasing more digipak boxes. they just look nice on the shelf and add that special look. the thing i do not like is the figure 8 style for the double disk plastic cases. call me obsessive i dont think they have that special look as the old double width cases did
so anyways what are your thoughts?

When moderators lock threads the posts should be moved to the relevant place, in my opinion.downrightindie wrote:so ever since the new look of criterion has been bestowed upon us, i've had a few points about the cases.

Agreed on all counts. Especially on the figure 8 style cases. Really don`t like themdownrightindie wrote:so ever since the new look of criterion has been bestowed upon us, i've had a few points about the cases.

Liked the old double thick cases better...

I agree with you totally about the digipaks. They really make the package feel special, and to be honest when Criterion release a new release in a keepcase, I feel disappointment!downrightindie wrote:so ever since the new look of criterion has been bestowed upon us, i've had a few points about the cases...

I personally don't have a problem with the figure 8 cases - I only have one (Army of Shadows), but prefer it to the old double keepcases, because the plastic on them always seemed to be so wrinkly! It doesn't matter how nice the artwork is, when there's a layer of grungy plastic on top.

Every time I get a new Eclipse title I am reminded of how poor the pckaging design is. (I am refering to the cardboard sleeve). At a minimum, the packaging should protect the discs from gravity. These sleeves do not. When picking up the set from the shelf I need to squeez the sleeve, else the contents slide off. In my opinion this is sub-standard. Even cheaper labels do better than this.
