Saw this posted over at Mobius.
HP and Trans World Entertainment Corporation today announced an agreement that will give consumers access to a diverse catalog of movie, TV and specialty video content on DVD titles not readily available today in stores or, in most cases, even online. To date, there have been nearly 1 million movies and TV episodes created worldwide, yet less than 10 percent have been captured on DVD.
Press release

I'll leave it to those of you with a better understanding of copyright issues to explain what exactly this is all about.

It sounds like they have a delivery mechanism in place, but no content yet to deliver. Neither party owns any actual content, so they'll be trying to license it all.

You can think of this as the movie/TV equivalent of what ArkivMusic does for out-of-print classical CDs: instead of just selling you the MP3s, they sell you a CD-R with the original artwork and liner notes printed out.

It will be interesting to see what they end up offering.

I just discovered ArkivMusic recently. Just as I was about to order though, I came across a cheap used copy elsewhere.
