I don't think that it's supposed to be "funny" per se, just a nostalgic reference point to those of us that were American kids in the 70s and 80s. I'm guessing that besides the "I got x in my y" pattern that mosts of these posts follow, the relevance to the thread is that both are kind of pointless and silly.hammock wrote:Not living in America I never understood the joke - why is it funny? If I understand the joke I might also understand why it suits the thread.

Ding Ding Ding.
More pointedly, it suits the thread because it is similarly "old" and "used". The placement of these postcards appears to be completely random, so I don't know why this thread has continued so long. I can't say I don't understand the Christmas morning-type excitement from getting a free film-themed postcard, but I guess I'm just not a "sharer". I didn't want to piss in anyone's Corn Flakes-- just quip and run.
Sorry it got all screwed up. And thanks for the help, Jeff. Now I feel as though all of my non-American friends have shared an inane slice of my inane childhood with me. Cheers.

Which, like most things, received a Family Guy parody!Jeff wrote:I don't think that it's supposed to be "funny" per se, just a nostalgic reference point to those of us that were American kids in the 70s and 80s.

Thanks for sharing that - I feel less stupid now. We never got those Reese cakes with the hilarious commercials to follow in Denmark but they sure looke delicious to me being a cake/chocolate man.
Totally forgot that Family Guy is still running and will go order seasson 5 right away - thanks Colinr0380! I guess I learned two things by asking one question - not bad for a human...

Hammock... I am going to cry if you seriously have never had a Reese's Peanut Butter cup. I would easily weigh 20lbs less if Reeses products did not exist, they are that amazing.hammock wrote:Thanks for sharing that - I feel less stupid now. I never joke about cakes! Will try them next time I go to the states even though no current plans to go - sadly.SncDthMnky wrote:Hammock... I finally found a place where I can order them in Denmark. It took me forever and to make things worse, the shop is closed due to summer holiday until August 1. I hope it's the right ones I found, see here, section 7 - Candy - a few lines down). I know I'm way off topic - sorry - last post!
