It's not funny at all. And it would only have been relevant to this debate if I supported that system. Moore deliberately ignores the Cuban situation because it doesn't fit the message he's trying to get across. That makes him intellectually dishonest.

In the scope of Moore's film - it's a nitpick. It doesn't make the underlying fact that the American healthcare system answers to corporations any less true.

If you're looking for alternatives all over the world you better damn well tell the truth about them. Otherwise Moore should go back to making TV where the quick jokes mattered more than any serious points.

Anyone not in Moore's corner obviously didn't make it all the way to Lou Dobbs at the end of the clip.

The fact that you think of this as two corners is very telling.

And Lou Dobbs is an idiot.

I love the fact that Dobbs has created his own theoretical voter--"the Dobbsian Democrat"--which I guess is someone who seems at first glance kind of normal but then is actually a foaming-at-the-mouth isolationist racist. Kinda fitting.

Really enjoyed Moore smacking around Wolf. Looked like Moore took a page from Jon Stewart's performance on CNN a few years back.

Not easy to dodge ambush-journalism like that Live. I was a little uncomfortable though when Moore seemed to make fun of Sanjay Gupta's name.

I also liked Moore's declaration that the Internet represents a better information source than one-way, sponsored media such as CNN.

Except that Stewart did it much better.

I didn't think he was making fun of his name at all. Repeating names is a common debating tool to buy yourself an extra second of time

Indeed. Stewart didn't change the subject. He responded immediately to the attacks instead of going home and defending himself on a blog.

How do we know that Sanjay Gupta is his real name?

"Wolf" isn't Blitzer's real name. It's Leslie.

Saw this story about Tony Wilson (of Factory Records fame) being denied, at least temporarily, a new type of cancer treatment by the UK's NHS, and it made me think of Sicko again. The story's here.

Board rules state that you're not allowed to post any information whatsoever that could possibly show Michael Moore and his incredibly even-handed film in anything other than a perfect light.

The article is clearly a right-wing lie. If you think otherwise, you're a fascist, neocon pig.

Then swing on over to the Rescue Dawn thread, where Barmy will reassure you that, if you're vaguely aware of who Herzog is, you're a left-wing liberal nut.

I couldn't resist pointing out this video from Fox News reacting to the recent terrorist attacks in Britain. From the video I gather that because the American system is based on making money they get to import the cream of the doctors - those less likely to be terrorists. Whereas I think they are suggesting that nationalised healthcare doesn't really care who they import so are more likely to get the terrorist doctors to make up the numbers!

So there you go, conclusive proof that providing state healthcare actually increases your risk of being horribly killed! (If not by a terrorist doctor exploding himself, then by the doctor not taking proper care of you because he is spending all his time reading extremist material on the Internet!) #-o

Do many people actually take Fox News seriously over there?

Unfortunately, they have the highest ratings of the cable news channels.

But isn't it mostly old people? The median age for Bill O'Reilly's audience is 71.

Here's the 24-54 demographic ratings. Fox News dominates.

The 29% who still support Bush probably do and it's too bad that Britain (and probably now the US) will overreact to these doctor terrorists and make it difficult for well-educated professionals to enter and work. They screwed it up so badly that I don't think we have too much to worry about, I mean those fools who rammed the Glasgow airport were beyond wannabes, they're just pathetic. Doctors and terrorism don't mix well.
