The Tom Goes to the Mayor DVD set is fantastic. I'm finding all new reasons to laugh at these shows, which I was already laughing my head off at (such as learning about the term "chippies".) Bob Odenkirk is all over this thing as a hefty bonus (his bits in the Tim and Eric's Awesome Show are some of the best parts, hopefully this will be out on DVD soon.) I wonder if any Tim and Eric material came from Odenkirk's unused NEXT! sketches.

From thedigitalbits:
Meanwhile, Warner Home Video has just signed an exclusive worldwide distribution deal for the complete Charles Schulz Peanuts catalog of some 50 films and shorts. The titles had previously been distributed by Paramount. As part of this deal, all of the titles will be remastered and re-released on DVD by Warner with newly-created special features. Several direct-to-DVD original titles will be created as well. The first titles set to be reissued by Warner will be Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown on 1/15/08, followed by It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown on 2/26. Additional, less familiar Peanuts titles will be released in collections similar to Warner's Looney Tunes Golden Collections.

The set costs $250, which I'm a little wary of, but I'm not buying it for my home, I would be buying it for my store.
Here's a pic of the set on the Time-Life website

So I've watched the first two episodes of the fourth season of The Wire. Superlatives aren't enough to describe how good this show is.
However: the picture quality on these DVDs (or, at least the first one) is HORRIBLE! First of all it's nterlaced in the worst possible way, so that jaggies are all over the place, and the picture jutters non-stop. Then the picture itself is very soft and too dark. Looks like an old VHS. Has anyone else noticed this? Man, this is bad.

I haven't watched season 4 of The Wire yet (I'm waiting until I have plenty of free time to devote to it) but I've honestly never been that impressed with HBO's shows on DVD, presentation-wise. However, as someone who works at a video store, I'm glad they've been abandoning convoluted packaging in favor of slim cases (Big Love season 2 is in the same style).
I finished watching Heroes season 1 recently and I think it might be one of the best TV DVDs I've seen this year, along with Doctor Who series 3.

So the writers strike is effecting DVD sets, as the first set of one of this season's shows, Friday Night Lights, is set to be released in April, sans any extras of course. I'm not a fan of the show or anything but it's a shame that the studios won't even wait til the strike is settled so these sets can gain extras. To be clear, I place the blame on the studios, not the writers.

I liked the first season but I felt that it went downhill after that as they tried too hard to crank out one taboo-smashing episode after another. It felt forced. Or maybe it was the presence of Danny DeVito.Morbii wrote:In the last few months I recently got into "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". What a hilarious show that is.

Anyway, I recently saw all of season 3 and I wasn't as wowed by it as I was the first two seasons. It may be a premature feeling, though (been in a foul mood lately).
Edit: And on reflection, maybe I feel like it felt a tad forced in season 3. I didn't feel that way in season 2, though. They did go outlandish a bit, but I guess it wasn't enough to trigger my "forced button".
