My Way Home

Image

From one of the world's most acclaimed directors, My Way Home is the second in a series of Miklós Jancsós films that Second Run are releasing. In the final days of WWII, a seventeen-year-old boy is captured and imprisoned at a remote barracks, where he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young Russian soldier. His attempts to return home form the crux of this wonderfully lyrical film, which displays all of Jancsós consistent themes: the psychological presence of landscape, the randomness of violence, the arbitrary nature of power.

My Way Home
(Igy jottem)
A film by Miklos Jancso
Hungary 1965
Second Run DVD 024

In the final days of WWII, a seventeen year old boy is captured and imprisoned at a remote barracks, where he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young Russian soldier. His attempts to return home form the crux of this wonderfully lyrical film, which displays all of Jancso's consistent themes: the psychological presence of landscape, the randomness of violence and the arbitrary nature of power.

The second in our series of Jancso films this disc should be released in the first quarter of 2007.

Personally, I think Jancso hadn't quite found his own style yet with this film. For me his next film The Round-Up was his first true masterpiece. So, I'm definitely more eager about that release.

Bikey you listed 2 Czech films as your first 2007 releases in your mail out. MY WAY HOME is listed at Amazon with the same date as these DVDs of Feb 19. Will this date will change or will it too be released on the same day?

No. I'm afraid My Way Home has had to move back to mid/end of March.

I'm toying with copying MOC's new approach and not releasing any info on upcoming films until the disc is in my hands. We don't want to continue to let release dates slip once we have raised expectations.

Good policy, they bay for blood on here if you falter at the last hurdle. Btw is Romeo still on schedule :)
Carry on like that Bikey and you haven't got a chance in hell of receiving nominations this year!
Seriously, really looking forward to this years tantalizing output.

Personally I don't give two hoots about slippage in the release dates but would appreciate a nod as to what's on the horizon. I know this point has been well made before but it does help with regards to what to wait for. I'm already getting an itchy trigger finger over at Amazon.fr eyeing up the Clavis releases.

...though reviewed by the Evening Standard yesterday, an impressive feat of clairvoyance considering that I'm pretty sure it hasn't been mastered yet!

Errr... No. It's not been mastered and no-one here has had contact with the Standard about it.

Very good of them to run a piece so far in advance though eh?

The release has gone back to give us enough time to comfortably work on the master.

I have given up on updating SR release dates since they change so often but I will trump Nabob by quoting the Amazon release date of the last 3 weeks: September 10!

I am hoping that SR will have MARKETA & ROUND UP ready at the same time. They will then surprise us all with a triple release [hint hint, hope hope].

We will advise of the release date for My Way Home shortly. It's not far off!

Monday, October 1st release date confirmed by SR in their newsletter. The cover art is not the same as that shown above.

I'm still hoping for a 2007 release of both MARKETA & ROUND-UP but it is looking unlikely. Please put us out of our misery soon Bikey.

What, you mean you want Bikey to kill us?!?!?

But yeah, I'd love to see those films out this year. I'm waiting on Marketa before I buy a batch of second run dvds. And after reading the newsletter earlier today, My Way Home will likely be in that batch.

Play says this was about to be released yesterday (it's still listed as pre-order), but I guess it wasn't.

As per Solent's earlier posting, our Newsletter confirmed the release date as being 1st October. And it will be available from next Monday; all stocks are in and despatched to the shops. Also will be available at our website from that day.
Thanks everyone for your patience.
