I don't know, most of those look like they were made by fanboys with a few weeks of Photoshop piddling. What is with the lowercase though? First the FMJ cover and now every one of these.

Does anyone know if the US blu-ray release of 'Eyes Wide Shut' will be the censored theatrical version or the uncut version? I can't stand those awful fake CGI couples in the US cut.

Both versions will be on the disc.

These are way better ONLY because they're consistent. Our stuff looks cheap (especially in alphas and probably WITHOUT inserts) by comparison.

I can't stand not having inserts. I would actually prefer less features on the disc if it meant that we could have a little booklet inside with information on it. It's pretty much the reason why I buy so many Masters of Cinema and Criterion sets. Because I like to read about the films.

I already own the old set. In fact, it's the first movie DVD box-set I've ever owned. I'd like to sell the old set and upgrade to this but it's very problematic since at first I thought only Dr. Strangelove isn't included but I found out Barry Lyndon and Lolita are being sold seperately and I'm like WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? This is going to be far more complicated than I thought. :?

that's compounded by the fact that I actually like watching the full-framed versions of many of these films (especially The Shining)... But I would like to have both options (well, for his last three films, at least).
I'll be selling 2001, A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon (if it turns out to be a new transfer)... the rest I'll keep right beside the new releases (depending upon how I'd like to watch them... on my laptop in bed, or on the tv?)

Would the new special editions included in the new Kubrick set be available seperately? I wouldn't want a double copy of Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures.

Yes, but I don't believe there's confirmation of the new Full Metal Jacket DVD being available outside the box set. We're getting kinda close to the release and there's still no word.

Full Metal Jacket Deluxe Edition

EDIT: Never mind, as pointed out below, this is an HD-DVD.

Full Metal Jacket Deluxe Edition
Interesting, Warner Home Video's site doesn't have it listed.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the above link is for the HD-DVD Full Metal Jacket Deluxe Edition. Go to Amazon, and search for Full Metal Jacket. It plainly says HD-DVD on the search results.

Just wondering, if anybody here is familiar with the Kubrick films from theatrical screenings, etc. what sort of improvement do you suppose we can expect on the new HDs? I know Full Metal Jacket is reported as awfully soft (perhaps because of bad encoding, perhaps because it was just shot that way). How about Kubrick's other films? Are we likely to end up with a 'Superman' type scenario were even the best encoding will still look like Standard-Def, just because that's how the film is supposed to look? How about those peculiar processing techniques used for Eyes Wide Shut? ("Pushing" the stock or something) I know they produce a lot of grain, but how do they affect the sharpness?

I didn't even know you could put files that big on youtube.

This doc isn't on the DVD, is it?

No Kubrick film is shot in a "soft" way (well, maybe Lyndon... maybe). His later films were pretty much exclusively shot on Zeiss lenses that provided crystal clear images
the "softest" of his films is definitely Lyndon, but that's not really getting the HD treatment.
