There is a negative review on Amazon.com saying that the DVD is full screen, not wide screen. Can someone please clarify this before I put the DVD in my cart?

The back of the cover here states that its Widescreen with 1.78:1 ratio.

I watched it and I can confirm that it was indeed widescreen, I think 1.78:1 sounds right.

My god, that guy probably thought the whole movie was shot with fish-eye lenses.

It certainly is 16:9 and looks as good or better than the UK disc (on R1 equipment), has all the extras (thank you), and the 5.1 track is NOT out of synch like the UK disc (no 2.0 option like that disc though). I just saw a pretty lousy (scratchy, washed out color) print shown here in Houston last weekend, so I'm even more impressed with the vivid colors on the DVD. Kit Carson was there to answer a few questions....he seemed to want to get out of there in a hurry,but was still interesting.

After seeing a whole series of wonderfully restruck prints from MGM over the past few months, all I can say is Fox does NOT put forth the same effort for their theatrical revivals. Three Women and M.A.S.H. looked lousy too, to name a couple that I have seen recently.

Unless I am missing something or Amazon have made a pricing error (possible)... mine just arrived... but is it cropped?

Fox's much awaited Paris, Texas is in beautiful 1.75 aspecxt ratio, anamorphic and has Wenders commentary, 25 minutes of deleted scenes... AND is under $10 at Amazon ?!?!?!...

NOTE: Can anyone confirm this film is 1.66 ? cause this Fox DVD is 1.75 and may be cropped for anamorphicity. Hopefully we can compare to the existing PAL releases soon. I'd really like to know though...

It was projected pretty close to 1:85 theatrically in Houston recently, and looked right to me. The colors certainly were nowhere near as eye popping as the dvd in the poor print Fox is circulating now. I wonder if the upcoming NYC screening will be from this same eyesore.

That price seems right. deepdicountdvd and dvdplanet have it for under $10 also.

It was originally announced as a barebones title from Fox, with a $9.99 pricetag. I guess they got the extras out, and never changed the price. Stop complaining, Gary!

The Anchor Bay PAL version of Paris, Texas claims to be 147 minutes long. Accounting for the 4% PAL speedup, the NTSC version should be around 153 minutes. The Fox DVD is only 145 minutes long. All timings quoted here are based on the information printed on the jackets. Does anyone know if (1) the Fox version is missing some part of the film, or (2) it has been created from the PAL original with the usual PAL -> NTSC problems?

Although I had bought this DVD a while ago, it was only yesterday that I sat down and watched the DVD. WOW. I never knew how vivid the colors could be from a movie made back in 1984. This movie could've been shot recently and we would've never known.

From the Beaver comparison, it looks like the Anchor Bay has 6:38 of outtakes not seen on the Fox version. Has anyone here seen them, and if so, is it worth picking up for those alone?

True: I don't really care, as I doubt that the current Fox edition could be significantly improved upon, and even if that were so, it surely wouldn't be worth the cost. Just joking about: there are so many other, more in need titles Criterion could be doing instead of this that I'd be angry if they were wasting time and effort on something so superfluous (as a potential release, not the movie itself).

Last month while traveling in Germany I picked up a copy of this in for 9.99 Euros in the Süddeutsche Zeitung (Sz-Kinemathek) series, but I haven't looked at much of it yet. It is listed as 1.85:1 aspect ration and 139 minutes. It's PAL region 2. It's listed on Amazon.de for 8.95 Euros. Amazon.DE lists the same specs for the special 2-DVD set that is part of the Wim Wenders edition, available for 18.95. If ordering from the US they deduct the VAT. Amazon has flat rate shipping regardless of order size for 14 Euros.
